Appointment outcome

My sister did with her second. She wasn't given any approximate length of stay, just followed instructions, took what was given and baby ended up being born 2 weeks late.
You're in the right place. Trust in the qualified staff around you, not mums on facebook. What worked for them could be dangerous for others. X

Okay, thankyou! Being on a ward really worries me just for at night. I also feel like I've forced this on myself anoyed and stressed! I won't take there advice, the nurse declined it any way... I'm at 2cm now :0 (19:41pm)

I’m actually really concerned that they’ve given you vaginal examinations so close together if they think that you’re in premature labour, you’ve been bleeding and there’s a query as to whether your waters have gone. I would certainly be loathed to repeatedly assess a cervix more often than recommended, exceptionally so on a 27 week pregnancy.
What was their justification for giving you 2 internal examinations so close together? They should be leaving well alone if they got sufficient information from the first examination. Was it a doctor or a midwife who checked?

Yep...they didn't do it with my sister...was a huge risk factor

Same for me. I went into prem labour at 30 weeks, got assessed once and they then left well alone.

Midwife. No, justification wasnt made I thought it was normal I reckon not now from what you have put.

Oh, what I meant was I am having my bp taken and my temp etc. They have only done one exam today is this bad? I'm worrying that it's that could it be?

Midwife. Your post is a little confusing.

When you are looking after someone in labour, the guidelines are to assess cervical changes on a 4 hourly basis after the onset of regular contractions. This is because we would worry over the risk of infection by giving too many vaginal examinations. His is even with a low risk, term pregnancy.
At 27 weeks, I really would have thought they’d make every effort to not give you any more internal examinations than absolutely necessary and I’m also shocked that it was a midwife who checked and not a doctor.
They’d need a good reason to check you twice in quick succession like they have.

Ah ok.... I thought you’d had two examinations and been told 1.5cm then 2cm and I’m worried why they’d be checking this so often .

I'm really scared now on whats going to happen it's all my fault that my baby girl is in stress :( The nurse just came in and I asked why they did 2 and she said to check how dilated I am ...

You've just said you haven't had two examinations? But clearly you have to show you're increasing in dilation.

This is a very confusing thread

I was about to say the same thing netty I'm so lost

I had one exam this morning when I got here then one around 7pm I haven't had one since. The nurse keeps looking at my bp and chart of contractions but no exams after 7pm

Hmm maybe she’s just really stressed and is misreading or not understanding some questions so everyone is getting a bit mixed up? The thread is a little confusing now.

Next time the midwife comes in ask her to explain it all very clearly, what they think is going on, what are they doing to stop it.
Is it tocolytics like atosiban for Prem labour, or a magnesium sulphate infusion for suspected pre-eclampsia.
Do they think your bleed is down to prem labour, partial placental abruption or something else.
I would also be asking to speak with the obstetric registrar to see why either they or their consultant have not been the lead professional in your care at 27 weeks, I’m surprised a midwife has been doing the examinations, unless at your trust this is normal but I have worked on 3 major delivery units in the Midlands and midwives do not tend to examine women like this.
What has suggested the baby is in distress? A cardiotogograph or a uterine artery Doppler?
I’m not surprised you’re confused, I’m really confused and I do it every day!

That makes sense. Must be so stressful for you.

Wow! You’re amazing with your knowledge! I’d love to be a midwife.

We certainly don’t get paid enough for how much we need to know  but Turn clearly is sat fretting over what is going on here and no clear communication or plan of action probably isn’t helping her raised blood pressure.
Could be something as simple as a urine infection irritating the uterus so that’s why I’ was surprised if they are being so overly keen to do vaginal examinations.

I will ask as I'm getting confused myself. I was told by the doctor in A&E that I'm going into premature labour. tocolytics through an iv, I have asked for magnesium but the nurse said I can't have it yet, I don't know why but I will ask. They think premature labour because of the liquid that passed which could be my waters. Okay I will ask and see why but I thought it was normal. cardiotogograph I think but I will ask again, I think baby's heart rate keeps rising then dropping. In about 10-15 mins the nurse should be coming around again to do a check up on another lady so I will see if she can answer some questions. I can feel that I keep contracting but I'm not allowed up to tell anyone. What would you do? I'm really panicked on the verge of tears as I'm not getting any proper answers and I'm petrified that what ever medication they have given me to slow down the contractions isn't working :(

I’d ring your call buzzer and ask the midwife to check, if you’re in labour they’d need you down on labour suite not maternity ward at 27 weeks. The magnesium sulphate they won’t want to give unless they think you have the onset of acute pre-eclampsia. If the trace of the baby’s heart is showing large dips they will need to do something, but their heart rates are variable, they aren’t consistent like ours.
