Hi All,
I'm Nancy. I'm 39 and pregnant for the first time, and only 5 and a half weeks, so while I'm well excited I'm also worried about all sorts of older mum issues. It would be great to hear from anyone who's gone through this or going through it now.

Cheers x

That's brilliant, congratulations. How far along are you? Have you told anyone yet? I have only told my best friend (apart from my OH) as I worry it's too early.

Sorry just realized... Your post says you're 8 weeks and two days... Duhh. I have become really stupid over the last few weeks!

Only told my best friend and partner ofc, I first got pregnant in May, got to 6 1/2 weeks then we told parents, and family, few days later I mc'd :( so this time we aren't telling anyone til 12 weeks the earliest to be safer, First time I got pregnant it was an accident because I was on the pill, so a bit of a shock, but then we got really excited and were devasted when we lost baby, so we decided we would just see what happened, had a positve 6 weeks after my EVAC.

It must have been really rough for you, but so pleased for you that you've conceived again so soon, it's fantastic. I am in the same mind, we are not telling anyone till we can be as sure as poss that everything is ok. Think I will keep quiet till it's obvious. I have just found the older mums pages... There's loads of us, it's great :)

Hey Nanc.....im 38 and pregnant with my second after a 16 year gap between this one and my daughter! MC in april at just under 6 weeks but all going great this time! Got my first scan a week on Monday and very excited but also a bot nervous too but all in all everything is going fine and I cant wait to meet him or her!!

Congrats on your pregnancy too....and heres to a happy and healthy time ahead....xxx

Thanks Wilma, great to hear from you and Congratulations to you too! Do you start to feel a bit more confident the further along you get? X

Thanks nanc!

Absolutely!

TBH Ive tried to keep an open mind from the start and havent really stressed out about anything but obviously with my scan just around the corner Im starting to let my mind wonder in the wrong direction although I have ansolutely no reason to think anything is not right...i think after a MC or in a high risk pregnancy its only natural!

But yes I can def say as the days turn into weeks and now months I feel soooo much more confident and Im sure after the scan the excitement will kick in as all being well with the scan were off shopping!!

Enjoy it and Im sure all will be just fine xxx

yayy for older mums - Iv'e just posted on the other thread about it!

I'm 37 and on my 4th and last baby

When I went for the blood test at the hosp to go with the Nuchal scan, the lady tried to make me feel better , when I joked about getting tested as I was getting old now, and she said

"oh nonsense, your'll be fine, take me for example, I'm 40 and I would have a much higher risk than you"

so I said " you do know I'm 37 don't you"? and she said

"Oh , I thought you were much younger "(which was nice), then she tried to back track on her comments, and say it wouldn't be that bad!! (Little did she know I was to go on and get a 1 in 9 risk!!) (all fine now tho after more testing)

I think next time she might not be so quick to reassure without checking the form or asking the age maybee!

why are older mums , always made to feel like they are pushing the boundarys and will have more probs ?

Totally agree JJ....Im seeing the consultant next week as was referred straight to consultant care as Im a high risk, with my exsiting illness and my age....older mother tag!!!

Will be interesting to see waht kind of response I get too!!

But yes....def Yeyyyyy for us older mothers....where not quite over the hill just yet!! xxx

im 38 in a few weeks and having my second after an 11yr gap im lso under consultant care due to high bmi and age but i dont mind

I kinda feel like I should join as although I'll be 31 at Christmas, this is my first baby and I have been kinda treated like an older mum at my appointments as most of the other first time mums seem to be under 25 round these parts.

I am 35 and on my first baby! We are expecting a girl ~ and are very, very happy! I am 29 weeks pregnant, due the third week of November :)

I'm 32 and have just had my first baby - I was the oldest at all my antenatal classes but don't know if I count as an older mum or not although I do plan more kids so will officially be an older mum next time I guess!

I'm 34 and this is my first I'm not treated like I'm 34 but I guess that's because I'm a big kid :)

I'm 36 and expecting my first (and last!). I'll be 37 when the baby arrives, unless it makes an early appearance.

I'm 35 and expecting my first. Don't really feel like an 'older' mum - plus lots of my friends are just having their first and they are the same age as me so I don't feel old and alone!!

Im also 35 (just)- and also dont feel old lol always said id have babies in my 20s met my ex and 21 and got married at 24 - then wasted the next 9 years ( thats all im saying) then i met my partner whilst going threw my divorce and officially got 2gether just over a year ago - sometimes joke why it took him so long to come into my life lol
