Airport Body Scanners

I think I'd be more uncomfortablw with a strip search or a pat down , to have to actually remove my clother or be touched would bother me . A scan would still feel invasive but I would feel like I was holding on to a bit more dignity . I actually wouldnt mind doing it too much if it meant I could feel safer on a plane I'm a very nervous passanger so I think it might put my mind at ease . However if I thought I was pregnant or was pregnant at the time and it was mandatory I would choose to avoid flying .

if it means flights are more safe for me to feel safe bringing my baby on etc then im all for it personally! :) xx

I don't like them either heppi, mainly because the health risks associated with being exposed to a full body xray over numerous flights, hasn't been proven. There have been reports of those operating the scanners having a spike in the incidence if certain cancers. They might say that the risk is minuscule, but if you're the unlucky one in a million then you won't give a damn about how small they say the risk is, as far as you're concerned the risk was 100%.

I'm not bothered about anyone seeing me "naked" although I do also see it as an unnecessary invasion of personal space. I don't think everyone should go through one as a matter of course, I think there should be an initial stage of security, which if failed for whatever reason, should then lead to the scanner as a last resort.

we r loosing our privacy, cctv everywhere, body scans, satelite pictures of your house n garden. It's disgusting.

100% agree with you, I want to live on an island where I'm not being spied on all the time. I'm not naive enough to believe it's for my own security either, everything in place in this country is for the benefit of the system, not us, we're just numbers.

I re-read 1984 when I went away last month, I hadn't read it since i was at school, and it scared me because it seemed so real!

I don't have a problem with this either - unfortunately as terrorists get more cunning and adept at concealing things, the authorities have to come up with new and better ways of screening people etc.. Better safe than sorry.

It will never be 100% safe, they will always find ways. I think I read s statistic n I'm not compleatly sure but think the chance of the plane your on getting taken of terrorists is 1:25 000000. I doubt something like September 11 will happend again, I think if anything there will be more suicide attacs in USA, london.

Systems always gets abused in some ways n I'm in agrement with inky about this, we r just numbers. Where will it stop?
One of these satellite pics clearly shows my my sofas trough the window, I also had a sneaky look in my naleighbours back gardens. I was amazed but really shocked. N most of all angry that it was possible.

We r always watched....

But why worry if you are a normal and honest individual? I don't care who looks at me, my house, scans me or captures me on CCTV because I have nothing to hide. I want to feel safe and want our country to be kept safe. It's important to remember that the uk is still classed as under significant risk on the terrorist attack scale. More and more criminals are being caught and brought to justice due to advancements in CCTV and imaging, years ago there would just not be the evidence. CCTV has been vital in high profile murders (Jamie Bulger, Millie Dowler, Rhys Jones to name a few) meaning scum put behind bars where they belong and a tiny piece of justice for those poor heartbroken families x

If we were all criminals I'd understand but why should normal and honest individuals have their whole lives viewed by strangers? If you look at my Mums house on the satellite images on google maps you can see her hanging out her washing... Underwear and everything... It's wrong!

I completely agree x

When terrorists were using liquid bombs we got the allowance of liquids, shampoo, shower gel etc and I think that worked well. I don't care about cctv or things like that, it helps hugely to catch criminals, piece together murder enquiries etc.. Google maps don't bother me either as what's the chances of someone random typing in your postcode/address and seeing knickers on a line, I found it hard enough to find my own house rather than anyone elses.. I don't feel "watched" as such, like Cosmic said I've nothing to hide so they can watch away x

Absolutely well said

it doesnt bother me in the slightest! if i was pregnant, i'd choose to avoid it because of the xrays, but i'm not bothered at any other time! i find being patted down to be really invasive, and id far rather have someone looking at an image of me on a screen for a few seconds! i dont see it as being an invasion of privacy, the way i see it, its unfortunately a necessary precaution in our current climate! there's some truely horiffic people out there, the chances of a terrorist attack on a plane arent massive, but especially now, when al quaeda are still biding their time for a "revenge" for bin laden, i know which option i'd prefer!

I together with 99% of us got nothing to hide, still there is 1 cctv on 14 ppl in this contry, more then anywhere else. I agree that it has helped in some cases, but the extream cost of cctv is ridculous when the money could be spent on trying to prevent crimes in other ways. I don't think they should be banned, at high risk places there should be cameras, but when we Re all monitored as soon as we step out of our front door, its beyond stupid. When will it stop? I don't Think our parents or grandparents could imagine it to be Like this so even though its hard for us to imagine now, will every baby have a microchip operated in at birth in 20 years time?

It will always be abused, Britain should spend there money on better things, cuz in all honesty even tho there is over 4 millions cameras in Britain, the crimerate is still high.

theres a cctv camera literally right outside my front door, then another 3 i think it is at the main door  god knows where they're monitored, if at all, but it makes me feel safer!

In a way , i wish we had more cctv used here . Its only outside shops and on motorways and although I can understand the need for privacy , if it helped prevent against some of the random attacks and rapes that happen at night in my area I would be happy enough . I appreciate what someone else mentioned about people abusing images and scans , but im sure there are ways to regulate things like that ?

There are CCTV cameras everywhere round here. I have nothing to hide, which is just as well, because as soon as I leave my house they can watch me get in the car. They can watch me drive down the round, and the ANPR cameras register my car when I go for petrol. The camera in the car park watches me enter and get my baby out of the car. The cameras in the lift watch go me into the shopping centre while the cameras in the store look at what I buy. The cameras follow me to a coffee shop in the centre and watch me breast feed my son. They follow me back to the car and then track me as I drive home again. What have I done? Nothing. Where have I gone? Nowhere dangerous. I've been tracked, monitored, and violated as I go about my personal business, and for what?

I agree they should be used in trouble hotspots, and on motorways to monitor traffic flow and be on the lookout for accidents. I agree they should be used where there s a likelihood of crime, but when the majority of cameras are in places of no interest whatsoever, where nothing ever happens, I fail to see them as anything other than an invasion of my privacy.

Also, ever since the cameras went up around here, crime rates have gone up. Polls have also shown that the fear of crime has gone up because the cameras insinuate that there s a problem.

I agree they have a time and place, but my house, is NOT the place that needs it.

see inky, i see it the other way! if you had a car stolen, or were involved in a hit and run, hit by an uninsured driver etc, you'd be glad of the ANPR at the petrol stations, likewise were you assaulted in a carpark or a lift, then youd be glad of the CCTV to help catch your attacker, well, if there was CCTV in a lift, it would act as a deterrant anyway! and CCTV in shops i see as being an essential, having worked in a supermarket! the camera opperators dont follow you around the store, unless the suspect you of something! thefts add to the stores loses, essentially driving up the costs of the items in the shop! if noone stole anything, things would cost a lot less!

Agree

I also disagree inky. If there was any kind of trouble in those places that had an effect on you, you would be glad of the CCTV. I find it sad that it needs to be like this but tbh it's an essential imo, and as an innocent person, I feel it's keeping me, and more importantly, MY BABY safe. X

I don't feel cctv keep me safe, if someone want to do something to me walking down the streets, they will, cameras or no cameras. I walked home from town last night after is been out, trough the park is not one single light so I walked the longer way, still, too dark for any of the cameras to catch anything happening?!
In my town in Sweden there is girl taxi, its cheaper n woman drivers, that's an example how u prevent a crime, to stop girl walking.home on their own.
I agree shops need cameras, banks, airports, outside hospitals, perhaps even outside shools, but not at every corner and street.

We r going towards a submissive and controlled society.
