Airport Body Scanners

No, they will never give up and we should never give up our fight for a safe country, vigilance is a must x

I live in the country, been here a year and half and I miss the city.. Plus you'll never hide from anyone lol.. There's a huge satellite up there which can take pictures all over the world x

Sent from my bad ass iPhone ;)

this has been an interesting debate - i do agree with cosmicgirl though. But saying that i do live in the country and the idea of walking past CCTV camaras constantly is not the norm! Maybe i would feel differently if i live in a city? But if they want to sit round all day watching me live out my mundane life, good luck to them!

I totally forgot about those body scanners. I'm a nervous flyer and haven't flown for a long time, but although it is intrusive, I'd rather they were in place. There are some complete nut jobs out there and anything that reduces the risk of terrorists is positive imo. I don't think security in airports is good enough. I remember going on a long haul flight and they were doing random checks of peoples shoes. Why random?!

As for cctv, I think its a good thing too. Just for crime and safety reasons. Like when someone goes missing, the first thing you see on the news is cctv footage of the last place they were thought to be. I don't think there is much cctv where I live, but I used to live in the city and we had a camera at the end of our street. It was handy when we had to call the police because you saw them move the camera round!

Anyone that's on google map and wants to be taken off, I think you can request it. I might be wrong, but sure a guy at work complained that his kids were on it.

x

I'd love to live in the country, I'd love a barn conversion, chickens and a donkey called Dinky x

last year I was looking after a donkey called daisy - she was pregnant and hormonal and made an absolute racket at night

I am all for these body scanners and more CCTV should be put in place.

Won't go into the story as it's long and it's difficult to type on this iPhone.. But CCTV helped catch somebody who attacked me many years ago. So yep I'm biased but for a bloody good reason.

I also seen on a programme that was shown on the tv last year that the people watching the CCTV footage live in Wigan town centre on a Saturday evening when obviously the happy drinkers come out to play.. They helped to save a mans life ... A man was seen with a knife behind his back approaching an innocent bypasser whom he had started to torment.. Police were immediately alerted resulting in them rushing to scene and saved the mans life.

I think CCTV is a saviour for people in cities. I guess thats one of the many differences in the countryside life to city life.

Awwwww mummy and baby donkey, how sweet is that. I'd have to tell her to keep the noise down at night though lol
I love love love donkeys x

Dinky the donkey  Love it, and Jayne you never told us you were donkey sitting  x

Did you see the sad story on the news sometime time april where someone stole the Donkeys space hopper toys from a feild and all the donkeys were apparently sad? :(

We r going towards a submissive and controlled society.

I'd have to agree with that. CCTV makes you feel safer but does it actually make you safer? Anyone could still attack you or rob you in the street with a hood pulled over their face making any CCTV useless because it can't see the key evidence, the attacker's face. So, in that case should we all be tagged so that the government and police know where you are at all times and can link people to crimes? Is that going too far? If it is, why? If you have nothing to hide...

The question is, how much of our freedom and privacy are we willing to give away in the name of 'security'? Eventually we might find that we are living in a police state no less restrictive than anything you see in the middle east and we would have ourselves to blame. Preventing terrorism is one thing but letting the threat of it fundamentally change our society's values and the way we live, that's when we're really letting the terrorists win.

PS - I flew on holiday from Manchester when I thought I might be pregnant and a large security guy bullied me into going through that scanner. It was frightening and degrading. So don't count on having the option of being patted down just because you're pregnant. Needless to say I will never fly from that airport again.

Awwwww no, I didn't see that, how horrible :( x

Alexandra - I too had a problem in Manchester airport last year! I shit myself!! So thought they was going to shoot me lol!

They scanned my hand luggage and a sharp object highlighted red showed up on the screen which informed them it was a huge knife!! Me!! A knife!!!

They treated me like I had just pissed on the queens dog! Needless to say they did not find a knife nor anything remotely sharp in my hand luggage!

I agree you do get bullied but Atleast we know if they did actually find somebody with a knife on them that they would belittle them and give them a bloody good scare!

God it took me ages to recover from that episode lol x

I think its so funny how people from cities always want to move to the country. OH and I are from a remote part of wales, and he spend the best part of the last decade plotting his escape from the county!!

And if you dont like CCTV, imagine living in a place where its impossible to buy a pregnancy test in tesco without seeing about 5 people who know you and your parents, and OHs parents :faint: A right mission! I feel like I have more privacy living in the big smoke than I did there.

Are you talking about Guernsey? Apart from there isn't a tesco there

Haha, I have the same problem - everyone knows everyone where I live! I can't walk down the street in one town near me without stopping to talk to about 5 different people :) It's nice in a way but sometimes you just wanna get your shopping and run!
