Hi Guys. I'm new to the forum today and I'm getting very pre-occupied with the thoughts of trying for a 2nd baby. I had my son when I was 34 and 12 stone - everything was completely fine. I really wanted to have another baby when my son was 3 so a 3 year gap. He's now 3 and half and my husband is not keen for us to try for a baby until I lose weight. I now weigh 13 st 12lbs BMI 31. I'm 38 today (boo hoo) and now I'm stessing more about my age rather than my weight. I've lost over a stone since February but weight is coming off very slowly. I want to try to get pregnant now cos I'm terrified of then being too old. What should I do? Wait and lose more weight or start trying now before I get too old? I know there are high risks in pregnancy when overweight and also late 30's its just a which is the greater risk? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm quite fit, exercise loads, non smoker and drink very little. I've a coil (Mirena) fitted. What do you think? Wait or go for it?

Its totally up to you and your OH if you feel you should wait then wait, if you want to start trying now then start. Sorry im not much help but Good luck :) x

id stsrt now your bmi is not high enough to be considered a high risk bmi they dont worry unless it over 35

IMHO I don't think 38 is too old x you could explain to your OH that you've already lost so much weight and that you intend to carry on healthy eating throughout your pregnancy x x

Welcome to the forum, it really is a good one!

Well 13 stone odd is not really that overweight, I'm 10 stone and age 36 and trying for my last baby, and age was the moan/worry from my family. I would say go for it, due to age. You have already lost loads of weight, lots of ladies actually finish pregnany lighter than when they started, and without any risk to baby with balanced diet and exersize. Loosing over a stone is a great commitment to pregnancy and your future baby! Well done

Hope to see you in TTC soon X

I agree with ^^^. 13 stone doesn't seem that overweight at all to me. And the changes you make when you are pregnant sometimes mean women stay a similar weight in the first few months as the healthy eating and metabolism etc. A friend of mine lost several stone before getting preg and wanted to lose some more. Anyway, she is 24 weeks and has only put on a few pound so far (jealous!!!!!!).

Tracey....IM OVER WEIGHT.....38.....and TTC....(had MC last month) but thats something that could have happened regardless of age and weight....so was able to get pregnant!

I also had Marina coil in for over ten years and had that removed in Jan so Id say if your ready and feel happy about it GO FOR IT..... Although loosing weight is great and well done for doing it....Id be a little more concerned about the age thing before the weight so good luck and look forward to seeing your BFP asap xxxxx

I'd say do both :) If you want to lose weight start healthy eating and exercise but I'd TTC alongside of that. You can still eat healthy during pg so you don't have to pile on the lb's.

I'm 37 and see ticker :)

you can always get pregnant now if the age is worrying you and ask your doctor to arrange a nutricionist for you during pregnancy, so you don't gain a lot more (and will be less weight after you give birth) and then after birth you cannot loose weight in the beginning but after several months (depending on wether you want to breastfeed or not) you can loose weight. I think if you now need to loose a lot of weight you will be too old for another baby (what if it takes you a year from now) you will be almost 40 when you get your new baby.

I am not saying you are old, but biologically spoken your chances of getting a (healthy) baby are declining more rapidly in comparission to someone who now might be 28 .

Good luck!

Have you tried explaining to your husband that TTC could take up to a year, and during that time you will continue to eat healthy and loose weight?!

I would start TTC right away if it was me, but then I have always been impatient and want everything yesterday!!

Me too Bonny! Tracey like I said I am very overweight....but we both started really making the effort with the healthy eating in Jan and so far so good...dont get me wrong Im only loosing it slowly but thats better than nothing and while loosing were still ttc....and like the ladies have said theres no harm in ending up at the end of the 9months lighter than when you got pregnant as long as its done sensibly....thats my intention if and when I get another BFP xxx

Thanks guys for all your positive comments... I thought maybe it was just me being impatient wanting to start trying now! You have all just more or less confirmed what I was thinking that as long as I contunue my healthy habbits then I can keep my weight under control. Age really is my main concern now I can always diet later. Now all I need to do is convince my OH that this is what is best for me and our baby. Its really hard cos OH is a firefighter, super duper fit with muscles on muscles and not an ounce of fat on his entire body....mmm better get on with the fun part lol

Ha love it Tracey.....sounds like you'll be joing us lot here in TTC in no time.....good luck convincing him Im sure he wont resist xxxx

I'd start now and do lots of walking throughout your pregnancy. Yoga is great too.

I've managed to get my weight down to under 13 stone today so I've talked to OH at lunchtime and the appointment has now been made to get the coil removed next Friday!! See you on TTC next week!!

Well done Tracey, great news, and your OH sounds yummy, (nice fit fireman) so enjoy TTC!

you might aldo lose weight once the coil is removed? thought id say hi cuz i seen you were from moffat! iv lived in lockerbie all my life :D

Im 38 also weigh 12st 6lbs and I am trying for my first baby. I have several medical conditions and have been given the ok by all my Specialists to go ahead and TTC. I am constantly being weighed whenever i attend hospital appointments and noone has ever said i should not try because of my weight. I say go for it, you are eating healthily and losing weight at a reasonable and safe rate. No reason whatsoever to be putting it off.

Hey tracey.....Im vey overweight but have had a weight loss every week since 26th June and I am just over 15 weeks pregnant!

I was wary that it might confuse TTC but it didnt and my consultants are happy for me to continue loosing weight right throughout the pregnancy so dont worry!

Good luck and will be watching out for your BFP asap xxx
