Toni that does sound mega exciting!! Positive visualisation!!

Girls congrats on all those that have had scans! Such an exciting time, lots going on for us girls!

Lacey, bet it's crapballs with OH leaving, on the plus side we are over half way though now so it's a count down to both meeting bub and seeing him so that's good!! Is it time we should be packing hospital bags? Please can you lot keep me up to date on when I should do what? I feel a bit slack, no pram, no crib, no preparation...

I have had a run of proper kicks tonight, felt them with hand too! I shrieked every time it happened! Too excited!

I have purchased a cacoonababy...a friend couldn't recommend it enough and it's the only 'gadget' type thing il be getting! Also have a moba Moses basket (mum got it, she was overly excited!) and decided she needed it for her place! Very cool rubber/plastic modern design and made and designed by a British family!

Happy Sunday xx

Lacey, great to hear you had such a good week. Must have been so great to be able to do so much together. Bet you made more of your time than me and OH this week - the time just seems to be slipping by.

Out of interest, just had 20 week scan. Not due to see midwife now until end of March. Does that sound right?

Loretta, I had my scan the 16th feb and i don't see my midwife till the 17th March i think it is so sounds about right is this your first ??

Thanks Angela. Yes this is my first. It wasn't like I was expecting them to have to do anything, but suddenly 5 weeks seems aaaaaages.

It seems the further along the more spaced out, then close to the end it's closer together. this is my second and still seems like a big gap to me too hehe

I really need to catch up on posts :)

Is anyone experiencing lower back pain which runs up your spine and leg cramp when stood for short periods it's driving me crazy and it hurts

Bonze - I packed my bag when I was in labour last time lol I don't advise leaving it as late as I did.
It's totally up to you on the stuff I have my pram, crib ect just need clothes now
I'm on the look out for a cheap ish but decent Moses basket :) no way am I spending £100 on one again

Toni-win - that's great news on your house hun I wish we were in a position to buy our own ive started saving hopefully one day :)

Lacey pleased you had a good time with OH seems like you got a lot done hopefully time flys and you will both be together again soon :)

Crawkay the line I had with my DD but also the dark hair please don't shave it off I regretted doing it lol

Packing bags should happen... Whenever you feel like it should happen.

I think last time I had both bags (mine and baby's) packed at about 30 weeks.

Buying stuff should also happen whenever feels right to you. Last time, I was buying from 12w on, just grabbing bargains off local Facebook page, or, shop sales, or just stuff I liked and wanted to get there and then.

I've been on a mission this week as we wanted to get stuff together, and not wait until the end of June to do so, so, last week we had nothing, this week, baby stuff is pretty much complete. Just a few bits to pick up for me.

Her hospital bag is her new change bag. It's got:
- Travel change mat (came with bag)
- Nappies
- Wipes
- Nappy bags
- Clear zip-lock bag for any "accident-covered" clothes
- Metanium (the only bum cream worth getting, IMO)
- Five vests
- Sleepsuit
- Three "outfits"
- Hat
- Scratch mitts
- Nightgown
- Blanket
- Baby "grooming kit" (Tommee Tippee have one pre-done with hair brush, tooth brush, nail scissors, nail file (all pointless at this age) nail clippers (could be needed) and a booger-sucker (invaluable)).
- Two bottles (prob won't be needed as hospital supply the tiny formula bottles if needed but OH wanted to have them in there).

Bits you may not think of, especially as a first time mum, but that I found I couldn't live without...
- Get a booger-sucker. You'll need it.
- Dentinox cradle cap shampoo. I washed DSs hair with this (use on scalp if no hair) every other day for first couple weeks, then twice a week for couple months. He never even had a flake of cradle cap. (If you don't know what that is, google it).
- A pot of snuffle-babe (baby vicks). Of all stupid things, smear it on the soles of their feet and put light socks on for bed.
- Baby olbas oil. You're not supposed to give them olbas oil for like three months because their nose is sensitive. I bypassed this by buying a cheap oil-burner from the pound shop, putting a tea light in it, putting hot water in the top each night with a few drops of baby olbas oil. I'd do this before starting bedtime routine, so it had half hour to float around the bedroom before bed time, then replace the tealight before I went to bed to keep it going through the night.
- Metanium. I know I keep on, but it's different to other nappy creams like sudo or bepanthen. Those are creams that seep away. Metanium is oil based or whatever, so it literally creates a barrier to stop liquid coming into contact with the skin (I compare them as sudo/etc feeling like yogurt, and metanium feeling like butter, if that helps explain).
- Baby calpol/nurofen. You can't use them until three months, but, it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Most babies end up having snuffly nights in the first few weeks, not because of a cold, but because they're still getting used to breathing real air, and they still gotta learn how to clear mucus. They only breathe through their nose for the first few weeks, not their mouth, so a blocked nose can be super-annoying for them.

I have work in four hours.
I have no idea why I'm awake.
Going back to sleep, hopefully, for a bit. Xx

Thank you Lacey! List is very helpful! I have been buying bits on offer like nappy bags and cotton wool etx. Also bulk purchased water wipes from boots as they were in such a good deal!! Have a few clothes but need to start getting bigger stuff I think!

I'm struggling with the where baby sleeps at night scenario...want a bedside crib but they are a couple hundred pounds and will a Moses basket do or will I regret lugging it up and down stairs every morning and night?!

BonzE dies your pram have a lie-flat carry cot? That would do downstairs.
If not, try ebay etc. a cheap one with a new mattress would work.

Do you have room next to your bed for a cot?

I think Moses baskets/bedside cribs etc are a waste of money (personal opinion, I know there are people who wouldn't be without them), as baby's really only in them for maybe three months, and they can cost as much as a full cot.

I'll be doing the same this time as I did with DS. Cot set up so mattress is same height as my bed, pushed right up together, and the side where the two mattresses meet (mine and baby's) left off the cot, so she's essentially on an extension of my bed, but still in her own cot.

DS was easy, to be fair, he wasn't bothered about the open space... I think he was just glad to have some room.

Some babies need the "closed in" of a basket, but I found swaddling worked just as well.

In terms of "lugging a basket", I don't think you'll find it a problem. You'll be so used to swinging prams/car seats around anyway, and baskets aren't heavy. Xx

Loretta also makes a good point.

If you are after a basket, pick it up cheap and just get a mattress new xx

Haven't got my pram yet Loretta but will most likely have a carrycot! Hadn't thought of that! Lacey ican for cotbed next to met bed but could at end of bed...think that's a bit far away? I'm going to have a burgers at eBay!! Thank you girlies! X

I'd put baby in a full cot at the end of the bed before I bought another thing, but again, that's personal opinion from how DS was, and the fact I'm now countin pennies and not spending on stuff I don't feel I need.

That said, if you'd be happier with baby in a basket beside you, there's nothing wrong with that. The only "down side" is the extra spending.

Also, if you're getting a carry cot with your pram... Done. Xx

My new changing bad is being delivered today - should that be babies hosp bad and mine seperate? Or should they be together? Ive not got a clue - or what i need to have in it, for either of us :( xxx

My list of what I packed in baby's bag is on the previous page.

I used her change bag because... Just, because, really. It's a bag, it's there, it's handy. I'll throw my stuff in a separate bag so I know what's where, but it's really all personal choice how you pack what.

For you, you need what you'd put in an overnight bag to go anywhere, just focus on loose comfortable clothing, and add breast pads (whether feeding or not, you'll leak like a fountain for a bit), maternity pads (get actual maternity, sanitary just won't hold up), a few straws so you can easily drink, and some witch hazel to put on your pads to help healing.

First time around, I found every list I could, combined them, and packed enough for a month. This time I know better, and I'm taking essentials only.
Things like make-up, hair dryers, bazillion different creams, all unnecessary. Take some sort of shower gel so you can give yourself a post-birth hose-down, and that'll do.

For baby, you need something to dress it, some way to feed it, something to put on it's bum, and something to take it home in.
Bare in mind a new baby could get through five changes of clothes a day.
Muslins and bibs are essential.

Again, last time, I took EVERYTHING. This time I'm just taking what I'll need (and, if I'm honest, still some extras). Xx

OH Felt baby kick this morning :)
It seemed to be having a mad half hour between 5:30am-6am and eventually I woke him up as I thought they felt strong enough that he might feel them and he did. Got 3 kicks in a row while his hand was on my tummy, he was so chuffed. He started his new job this morning so I like to think baby was wishing him luck, haha.

Thanks for the list Lacey. You're a fountain of knowledge!

Aww Crawkay that's amazing!! I can't wait to feel some kicks and until I can just lie there watching baby have a little wriggle around :)

Just got our Down's screening test results through the post FINALLY!!! Very relieved, 1 in 47,000.

I have 3 appointments over the next 3 weeks, Flu jab tomorrow :( A consultant appointment at hospital next week to discuss family history due to my sister having passed away from heart defects as a baby, and then my 20 week scan :) where they will hopefully confirm our 16 week scan, and say boy lol. If not....the blue clothes need to be returned!

Thanks for the checklist Lacey, I have screen shot it to use when I come to packing my bag, glad you had a fab week with OH, shame it had to go so fast for you!
BonzE, I have bought the Winnie the Pooh Moses basket from mothercare, as a crib or cot won't fit next to my bed and I want him as close as possible in the beginning, we are then borrowing a crib from my SIL for a few months to put at the end of our bed, for when he outgrows the basket xx
