It's awful that this has happened
I feel that there was more to this than what has been reported...they attacked simply because the girl was eating a meat pie? From what has been stated about how the owner was aware that at least one of her dogs was aggressive, what on earth is she doing leaving a child (regardless of age) alone with them all? She shouldn't be leaving her dogs with any child unsupervised at any time whether they're aggressive or not.
I've been nipped and snapped at by family Jack Russells, and they hadn't shown any prior signs of aggression, therefore I would never ever leave any children alone with any dog as I'm only too aware of how they can easily "turn".
I have two staffies and it breaks my heart that yet again they are in the spotlight. My two are teddy bears and completely adore my LO and my near 16 year old son but I won't leave my children alone with them. I can't 100% trust them as I don't completely understand them...they are an animal at the end of the day...a different species.
It does sadden me though because I remember the most amazing times as a child that I've had rolling about playing with dogs from all different breeds that were part of our family. My views have completely changed about how and when my dogs are allowed around my children due to the reports of dog attacks. I guess because nothing major happened to me with the dogs I was growing up with (a nip and a snap didn't make me afraid of dogs) I was 100% comfortable with dogs, but I'm not 100% now with the stories that I hear/read/am told about attacks.
BTW I'm most probably classed as a stereotypical staffy owner...tattoos, piercings
But I'm as much a teddy bear as my two staffies are
