Riley's currently in his cot but is wriggling himself right up to the top, turning sideways and getting stuck so he's waking us and Malachy up pretty much hourly. He's walking and climbing confidently, is it time to get him into a bed or do we ride it out as a development thing? He's been doing it every night for over a week.

I know ppl thst moved to cotbed/toddler bed from about 15-16ms..

Most tend to move because they climb up over bars so becomes dangerous.

I moved Noah just after his 2nd birthday and had the sides off his cot.

Obviously its up to you but when Noah got to the wriggly stage I just bought air wraps for the cot sides, breathable bumpers and also stopped him getting stuck between the bars.

We are moving Josh to a full size single in the next week, he's coming up 2yrs 4mths. He's been generally OK in his cot, odd phase of wriggling around getting in funny positions but generally ok. x

We have elise in a cot bed with one side off from wen she was just over 2.5 other side is against a wall due to design of room cany have it any other way - we are moving her room at xmas to the downstairs room so that when baby comes he or she will have the cot bed when grown out of moses basket elise will then have a full size bed xx

Riley is only just shy of 16 months which is why I worry he's too little. He's only recently started climbing on the sofa in the last couple of weeks but he's constantly getting stuck in stupid positions. He doesn't get stuck between the cot bars but he ends up stuck up the depth of the bed with his head in one corner and his bum in the other!

James was 2 when we took sides off cot-bed and he went into a proper single (bottom bunk of bunk beds) a few months back. Both times with no issues... He slept fine, hasn't fallen out etc...

At 16m he would have been far too young, although he was in with us loads between 13m-24m as he was in our room anyway and he was fine in the bed. He could get in and out ok!

X

I kept my son in his cot till around 2.5. He never tried to get out and was happy in it so we did it when it was necessary for toilet training. A lot of my friends had a nightmare when they moved their LO to a bed with them getting out constantly etc, so we were keen to avoid this for as long as possible ! Plan to do the same my second unless he tries to get out before! X

My little girl had the side off this week and she's 23 months. She climbed out and my mum discovered her so it was time. She's actually been amazing and hasn't even got out of bed with the side off. She's been brilliant and taken to it. I think you know when the time is right x

I had him in with me last night out of necessity and he had the best night's sleep he's had in weeks. Only woke at around 3 for a little chat, spent the rest of the night glued to me. I think I might put him in a bed with sides.

Have you tried taking one side off and putting a bed guard up ?
Ollys in a toddler bed for about 6 months ish now, didn't settle very well as he knew he could get up and out when he wanted so now we have his bed up against the wall and a bed guard on the other side and it's been grand. We wanted him to get used to a 'big boy' bed before the baby arrived

Xx

Dex has spent the last couple of months in with me, thanks to teeth and what not. He was freaking out about going in the cot, so couldn't be bothered with the argument.
Teeth all popped so tried to cot again. I've taken the side off and put a bed gaurd on and he's been much happier. Back to self settling and will stay down till around half 2. Then he just comes back in with me or hub takes him in the spare room.
Going to move to a single mattress on the floor next :)

I had thought of bed guards but was worried he'd climb over and was told they don't fit down the whole bed? Not sure how true this is though?

Brighty, has Dex got all his teeth now? Are you trying again? If so, best of luck. Missed your company, hope you're all doing well.

Dex doesn't climb out. He only sits up and shouts out. But all babies/toddlers are different.
His gaurd fits down most of the cot, and I use it on my bed if he sleeps in with me.
No, not all his teeth, still waiting on 4, but his first molars all came in at once 😴
Thankyou ☺️
All good over here. Hope you're all well too. Congrats on the new arrival ☺️

I'll have a think about the bed guards, I suspect frustration and lack of sleep will force me into some sort of decision.

I've heard the molars are the worst teeth to come up, not looking forward to them. We have 7 with the last incisor slooooowly coming up but it has crowned so he's not wonky now.

Thanks :)

Our eldest is 29 months and he's still in a cot bed. He would be all over his room all night if we moved to a bed so we're going to wait until it's absolutely necessary for potty training before doing this - 16 months would have been much too long for our boy but if it feels right then go for it :-)
