I'm just over 20 weeks away from my due date but I thought it would be a good time to start get mentally prepared for it. What did you think about your experiance with labour and would you do it again? What pain relief did you have and was it good?

I'm not gonna lie to you it is the most painful thing i have been thru.... but i would do it again and again the whole experience and at the end you get this wonderful bundle of joy :D

I had a epidural as the pain got too much and i had a long labour...

Pain relief is the best thing about labour  (wel apart from the baby at the end)

On a good note everybody's labour is different we all have different pain thesholds(sp) mine could be crap

Mine was very painful because i was induced (they say its worse because u dont get little contractions first)
Once i had an epidural and had gas n air i was in heaven
the only problem was the back ache i had never went away
u forget everything once ur babys out, its magical :D

i lost alot of blood so felt horrible and light headed after too but that went after an hour

I have had 2 births with only gas and air, one of them an was an induction. The one that was natural was fine and i would do it again tomorrow. I does hurt a lot but you get a break between the pains even if it is only short.

Once mine fineally started - i was induced too, I didnt think it was actually that bad. I had a hot of morphine, but that was because the gas and air made me sick (everywhere... wasnt pretty!)

Honestly, the sorest part for me was when I had my first pee afterwards... now that hurt!!

To be honest........ it was very painfull but bearable ( if you get me  ) for the first 6 hours  but I think I could of coped if I wasnt stuck and needed to be put on a drip to help me dilate :shakehead: thats when i couldnt cope anymore.

I would do it over and over to get my baby but the next time I will not be so against using drugs if i need to as by the time I had the epidural it was too late and didnt work

But mad as I am I want to go for a home birth again
Ive forgotten the pain and want another one lol :rotfl:

the worst thing about labour having Braydon was the stitches afterwards i think they hurt more than labour its self

I was Induced and to be honest looking back it really wasn't that bad, it could have been a lot worse!! I enjoyed my labour, it was short and sweet(established labour was 1hr 35mins) and would def do it all again, not just yet though lol. I managed it all on just TENS. The bad part I had was I lost alot of blood as my placenta didn't come away and I had to have it removed by hand :puke:

lol - it's never too early to think about it.
I researched every little detail so I knew what I wanted (I never realised how many options there were for the 3rd stage of birth for example!)
I was very lucky, and although it was quite a long labour, I coped with no pain relief what-so-ever, even with no birth partner.

It is an incredibly 'enlightening' experience (not sure if that is the word I was really thinking of - couldn't think!!) as you are doing what your body was designed to do.

I would definitely do it again (hence TTcing no 2) and am actually looking forward to giving birth again.
Whether you have pain relief or not, or whether you have a c-sec or not; You have grown and born a whole human being! That is one hell of an acheivement!!

It makes me feel better that most of you would do it again. I can't wait to get it over with as I think the pain is going to be awful but by the sounds of it it's a nice sort of pain.

definitely - it is very painful, but its not like breaking your leg, for example, when its a bad pain - the pain means you are going to be meeting your baby soon.
It's so worth it!

That's so true, the pain has an end and the end is fabulous! Some people don't take to it but I had gas and air and it was great as I just felt kind of like I was dreaming or drunk throughout most of it. Like MrsT says though it's odd because your body takes over and I felt like I was kind of more animal than thinking human if that doesn't sound too weird as I knew what I wanted to do and how to stand/move etc without being told. Quite an experience, and not one that men ever get to have which is a great shame I think!

It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I was induced and the contractions were coming so fast I didn't get a break, so I had pethidine which took the edge of it, the gas and air was ok. The bit at the end being stitched up and poked and proded was the worst bit for me, the doctor wasn't very gentle.
Would I do it again?.... in an instant, without a doubt, it was the best experience of my life!!!! :D

Totally agree with the animal instincts part - I was moaning, rocking, moving etc without any knowledge of what I was doing. It just happened and I realised that I had to let it.
I think the worst thing you can do is fight it. Go with what your body is telling you - worked for us!

Also agree that the stitching, prodding after is worse - you just want to be there with your baby, but I suppose they have to make sure you are ok!

haha!! I hardly made a noise during labour at fear the people in the ward would hear me!!

The midwife even told me I was allowed to swear!!

I roared like a lion but it didn't stop me doing it three times!!

I was induced so had strong constant contractions which bloody hurt but I weren't screaming. I soon got an epidural and it's bliss!! Even had a sleep! I ended up with a c section but I would do it all again tomorrow to meet my little man!

lol - I remember reading stories about womens' "birth songs" (the moaning - changing pitch and tone throughout a contraction) which made me laugh - but I then found myself bouncing naked on a birthing ball (sexy image huh?!) moaning, humming and huffing and puffing like a banshee!! I didn't scream or swear though - which suprised me.

i didnt scream or swear when i was pushin, i think i was concentratin so hard i just didnt bother!!
i was terrified of labour, then when i was in it i just went with the flow!
had a c section and when i saw my little man I just cried, best thing iv ever done!!! :D

I also think labour wasnt as bad as what I thought it was going to be. I did alot of hypnotherapy and learnt breathing techniques. I had a c section booked but ended up giving birth in the end. I had an epidural at 7cm. I recently watched my video and you would not believe I was in labour it was very relaxed and calm (which is totally not me)
