Hi Guys,

Well here I am we have our heart set on one of THOSE strange names that people are going to try and convince us not to use. It is a name we were playing with when I was pregnant with our son 10 years ago but we couldn't do it. It also came up before we found out our daughter was a girl at our 20 week scan 6 years ago. Low and behold it has come up again and we BOTH love it. We've basically had 10 years to get use to it but people are going to FREAK. My Hubby ask if we should run it past family and I said HELL NO! It's the sort of name that you just keep to your self because if you mention it before hand people will try and talk you out of it. If you say "such and such was born at blah blah blah mum and bub doing fine" text message people will say something behind your back at first but then get use to it, iykwim.

It is actually the last name of my husband's Australian rules football heroes as he was growing up. And I like to have formal names to put on paper but friends and family use short versions. I know not every one's cup of tea but we like that.

So here it goes,

Daicos Ian Samuel
(Day-kos)

For short we'd call him Daics (Dakes). His short name would probably be the name we'd use for the announcement it's more how do we say less Shocking.
Last night we checked the White pages on the internet and there is a total of 13 families in Australia with as a last name in there so I think he would not get too much flack about it as he get's older.

I just wish we loved another name as much but it's a sticker and we can't get past it.

I actually like it :-) but I prefer the long version to the shortened xx

It's not my cup of tea but if you and Hubby love it then go for it! I also think the full name is nicer than the shortened version x

I think it's lovely :) I prefure the proper version day-kos. :) lovely sounds Mexican :D

Yea I'm with u!! I like it!!!! Our lo has an unusual name and the spelling people don't get but the amount of people who have said what a lovely name once they grasp it I'm glad we did!!!!

Do it! X

What's your little girl called again twinkles? Xx

Hun...I actually like it! Yes it is different...but god from your post I thought oh god...whats it going to be hahaha  not that it matters what people think either...but I know when its as something as special as babys name...you kind of want approval! Anyway...think its a nice strong boys name :) xxx

I also like it sod what anyone else thinks :)

I've noticed as well when your pregnant people will judge and say and moan about your choices but when the baby is here try won't have a choice everyone loves my

Zander

And no one else had his name :)

We told everyone we were calling our son zander got bashed for it specially of the grandparents - called him Alexander and no one now calls him that at all!!! Everyone calls him zander! - wish I stuck to my guns! Lol the only people that call him Alex are - yes that's right his grandparents and he just ignoors them! Lol for this baby I'm carrying I like Marley and I'm not telling anyone? Aha!!

we were thinking of using the players first name "Peter" but both of us know peters and we don't like them. I like all the Peta women I know but the men not so much. Plus my hubby went out with a Peta before he started dating me so we thought that was a little strange.

I love the name Marley I know a few people with that name very fun and down to earth people plus suits boy or girl.

Daicos is actually a Macedonian surname. I'm actually hoping the baby is a boy now because I love that name more than the girl names we have picked out and I've been calling my bump Daicos all day. LOL!!!!

I like it and don't think it's too crazy at all!! I'm secretly hankering after Rex if we have a boy next time but not sure I dare!!!

Ahh It's really lovely, and I agree with ladies, for less shock maybee give them the full name, as actually I think it's less BAM if you know what I mean.. If you are both smitten with it, then it's the one for your baby .

My son is called Devon, I had it for my 3rd pregnancy in 2002! (after two boys was ready for a boy),and had a daughter, so didn't use it. My mum really didn't like it,my hubby too, noone in fact did, it was a conversation stopper, I didn't even get the , oh thats unusual, or just nice responses.. Then 9 years later I was thrilled to have my little Devon, it felt right, and hubby loved it too, it had stood the test of time as you say yours has.. Who cares what people think, announce he is called Apple and then when you get dodgy shocked texts back, then say only joking its Daicos, and they will love it...

Oh and funny, but Peta is a girls name I love, as with lots of names they don't work with my surname, as a celeb already has used it!! Peta ~Jones, also Bridget Jones, I love Ernst for boy (from swiss family robinson) but was that dodgy jeweler!!
I like Petra as a compromise, but keep thinking dog...
