Do you/are you going to wash baby's new clothes?

I really like fresh new clothes so wasn't going to wash them before he wears them...

I will be, I like them to be clean soft and love a bit of fabric softener on them too. That's one of my jobs when I finish work.

I was told to wash them all as there are all sorts of finishing chemicals on the clothes. May not be true, but better to be safe than sorry :) xx

There are chemicals put on the fabric in.the factories to make them.bright and crisp. In addition they can be.stored in places full of dust.and germs not to mention the hands they pass through- as a babies skin is.so sensitive i think it's definitely.worth washing them.in non bio but that's just me! I do get a bit paranoid sometimes!

All the advise says wash, I did mine recently, it felt a real shame pulling off all the tags to throw brand new clothes in the wash but not worth risking irritating new skin xx

I've washed all mine. Never mind the chemicals they put on the brand new clothing...just think how many times you've been browsing through items in the shop, drop something on the floor, pick it up, maybe drop it again...

I work in retail, I always wash new clothes. The things I see happen to clothes, the dust over the wrappers, being dropped on the floor etc. awful. Xx

Yes I washed (and ironed) all my clothes, blankets and bedding. It all smells lovely and fresh now.

I washed all of mine apart from a christmas outfit and when I put that outfit on her it was the only one she freaked out in and wouldn't settle. Something must have been irritating her as I ended up having to take it off after a couple of hours x

Ive washed everything. Even moses and carrycot cot inserts.. basically anything cud get in the machine. .lol

All mine were out on the line yssterday. Took advantage of a nice sunny breezy day. I have washed everything. Clothes, moses basket bedding, towels. Washing line looked rather strange as it is our first baby but I actually felt great once they were all away. X

I've been given a heap of clothes second hand. I know they're clean but I'm still washing them. Gets the 'family scent' into them.

I also work in retail and wash absolutely everything before it gets worn, even stuff in packets. Just think of all the people who don't wash their hands after using the loo, smoke or even take drugs who go on to touch the clothes before you buy them

I'm washing everything new I've bought. I have some hand-me-backs (clothes my son had that I gave to my sister which are now back to me), they smell as if they've been freshly washed but re-washing anyway. I've washed my buggy, carrycot, carseat and crib down too. It has been a right pain but worth doing.

I wash everything too, think its part of the nesting for me. Love seeing all the little vests and gro's on the line. To divert slightly, does any one wash down their moses basket? As its wicker im not sure how to tackle it. Plus carseats, do u just give them a rub down or what? Mines is a maxi cosy, im not sure if the covers removable x

As I am re-using my son's old car seat I have just given it a good scrub down and put some carpet stain remover on any stains and then I drenched the whole thing in boiling water. Not sure if that is right or not. Obviously, any removable covers can just be put in the washing machine.

A steam cleaner would be great for that too. Can't get enough of it at the moment, the house will be sterile by the time LO here lol.

I've washed all the clothes and blankets etc. Doubt I'll be doing the car seat and the pram.

You girls also planning to steam clean all your carpets, sofas and anything else the baby will come into contact with? Where do you stop? Can't protect them from everything.

Haha, carpets are fairly new here so no need, sofa will only because it needs it and on the list, won't be doing car seat/pram etc though, for us it's more surfaces, window frames, bathroom tiles...

My car seat and buggy and carrycot have all been properly cleaned because they were used by my son previously.
