Can pregnant women wear underwired bras or not?
I'm so fed up with reading things we apparently shouldn't be doing, and then reading somewhere else that it's fine :wall2:

I need to buy some new bras, so should I be buying non-wired ones or does it not really matter? Does it really affect your milk ducts or is it a load of crap like half of the other stuff I've read?
I do plan on breastfeeding, by the way.

I think its just a case of making sure the bra fits. So if you want to wear underwired, just keep getting yourself measured to check your size. I personally just went and got a sports bra as I found them so comfy. Next time Id probably buy some nice underwired ones but keep on top of my sizing.

Hope you find something you like! x

I would love to wear them but my bump seams to come from right under my boobs so it just rolls up n is so uncomfy I got some really nice non-wired bras from primark and they have kept me comfy all through pregnancy, Im not too sure if it damages your milk ducts though maybe ask your midwife if your planning on breastfeeding hun x

From what i have read it is not optimum to breast development to wear underwire bras. Same reason pre-pubescent girls should not wear underwires, there is too much development and stuff going on. You can get good, stiff bras that are not underwire so i would go with one of those

underwire bras cause more pressure to the bottom of your boobs . . . hence giving an amount of lift, which is also why they say that it can cause problems with the ducts as they are under more pressure than they would be normally! they can also but extra pressure on your rib cage, and as that part of your body is constantly changing in pregnancy it can be very uncomfortably one day and not at all the next! if you do go for an underwired bra its a good idea to get one that is slightly loose on the underbust as it will put less pressure on your body!

like bigbump said, you can get some really good supportive maternity (non-underwired) bras! mother care do some with light padding as well :)

I was curious about this and had a look online...... Not sure about the facts but you can buy maternity bras which are underwired... So guessing it cant be too bad x

I've stopped wearing underwires for now, it's not for long really, just need to make sure the bra fits well. Materlan also do cheap bras with padding and no underwire think they were £4 each!

I was worrying about this too, I'm still in my normal unwired bras and didn't know when or if I should stop and swop to maternity ones? Think I might try and get measured somewhere and just make sure I'm in the right size as I haven't changed size I wear since I got pregnant

I am am still wearing underwired as my boobs havent grownt, just bought a pack of bra extenders to accomodate ribcage expanding

I wondered the same thing when I was pregnant but just bought sports bras and i loved them that much i still wear them now i did buy maternity bras but much prefered the sports and they are cheap

I read somewhere that it's ok to wear underwired bras as long as they are comfortable and fit well. If they sell underwired maternity bras then I'd say that's a pretty good indication it's ok. I have't got huge boobs but they have grown a bit and got heavier. Still wearing underwires at the mo but will prob go for some mothercare ones or sports bras a bit later on.

I'm still wearing underwired bras. Fortunately before I fell pregnant I had lost 3.5 stone and my boobs had really shrunk but since becoming pregnant they have ballooned again and I'm able to use my old bras. I think as long as the bra is a good fit then it doesn't matter if its underwired or not, depends on what your most confortable in.

I think it's just the fitting that matters hun, if you go to somewhere like Marks and Sparks and get measured and fitted properly then I'm sure it will be fine to wear underwired. I've wore underwired right through anytime I've been out and just wear a maternity sleep bra around the house and in bed at night :) xxx
