Twins chat 2016/17!

I had another scan today and they were so naughty, wriggling around and kicking each other so the sonographer was really struggling to get measurements! They are measuring very well though, and I also saw the consultant for the first time and she said they will be out between 23-30 Dec unless I go into preterm labour. There was also lots of scary stuff about twin to twin transfusion, but I'm putting that to the back of my mind as worrying won't help!

How many weeks will that put you? I will be 37 weeks to the day when I have these - and I am grateful of that as I don't think I would make it much further than that
Unfortunately they have to tell you things you don't want to hear just so that you are aware.
How often do you have scans with identical twins? And at least you have a rough idea of when to countdown too for them :) x

It would put me at 36-37 weeks. I have scans every 2 weeks up to 24 weeks to monitor for twin to twin transfusion, and then every 4 weeks after that.

I know they have to tell me the risks, but the lady was just a tad blunt - "In the event of transfusion, they may die." type thing.

Not long now for you!

Oh so the twin to twin thing happens at the beginning? I never knew that.

No not long for me but I have developed a lump that is possibly a hernia :( so just trying to figure out what the right thing to do is x

My sister had twin to twin with her ID boys and was scanned every two weeks, it remained stable but she went into spontaneous labour at 32 weeks but the boys weight was 4lb each was fab

My MiL is adamant that these twinnies will be here 35/36 weeks lol

Isn't it, they were really pleased. They were in SCUB for a few weeks but just because they were so early X

Well that's to be expected but it's still good :)

I can't wait to meet my boys :) this next week needs to fly x

It's so near now isn't it! How exciting! We are all going to be waiting for the news :) your bump is looking fab too hon. Do you have names all chosen and ready? X

It's very near but I'm ready for it, I have struggled since I went beyond a normal pregnancy and now I just want them here :)
And yes one is Thomas and the other Robert x

Ah I bet Hun x
Ah lovely names, we wanted Thomas but we've got too many family & friends with it. X

Hehe it's one of the few names that isn't taken over by family and friends for us, my husband picked both names x

Ahh that's lovely. It's mad isn't it! There's a few names that I love but are taken by people just too close to us ha ha X

No, twin to twin can happen at any time, but the consultant was saying that someone decided it a scan every 2 weeks up to 24 weeks and then once every 4 weeks would suffice unless they feel like things look dodgy. She was saying that some hospitals do every 2 weeks throughout though, and she thinks my local hospital (which is a leading hospital) should be doing the same and will soon.

It drove me insane, all you want is a good name but they are either taken by someone close or ruined by an idiot x

It just happens to be my nearest one, I wasn't specially referred because of twins or anything, it's literally down the road!

I have a blood disorder so I have no choice, it's not my nearest one but to be fair my nearest one is like a conveyor belt, they kick you out about 2 hours after birth x

Hey ladies how are we all ?

MrsB bump is looking fab and not long now until you meet your boys :)

Just a quick question, when is everyone looking at taking/starting their mat leave ?

I'm not sure when to start, I said I wanted to work as long as poss as long as babies & me are all fine but then I also know my sisters boys & also a friends girlfriend recently had theirs at 32 weeks so I was thinking maybe 30 weeks? I'm sure I will be pretty big & even though I feel fine now I may feel pretty uncomfortable quite quickly? X

5 sleeps for me :)

I finished work at 29 weeks, I do work on my feet though and it's physically demanding, I did however use a month of annual leave though so didn't actually start mat leave until 1st August approx 33 weeks

Twins are known for coming early .... Not that mine have lol

I have also read if it helps, and I read it a few weeks late .... You should aim to have your hospital bag packed and ready at about 26 weeks, mine was done for 30 ish weeks ... Even though I have adjusted it a few times lol x
