At last, I hope, chance to announce my little man, write my birth story and share a pic
On the Friday I had had BH's all day again, I saw the MW at clinic as my BP had been high earlier in the week, it was back down and was sent on my way. I was really grouchy and fed up all day. Pattern seemed to go as it had over the past 3 weeks. I had some paracetamol a bath and headed to bed for about 10 pm. As usual I was woken at 2.30am, they were regular but didn't seem to be lasting the minute, so after niggling in bed for a short while we came down for a cuppa, paracetamol and I bounced on my ball. Although I was absolutely convinced that they were no different to the BH's I had had before I did end up in the bath, which I hadn't before and DH continued to time them and pouring warm water on my back. At this point DH decided he was ringing delivery suite for advice (about 3.30), was advised to give it an hour, but I only really lasted until 4, so delivery suite said to go in. We arrived and I was examined at 4.30, I was fuming with myself as I was still only 3cms, so was sent for another bath and they got me some codeine (which I got about 6ish I think!). I tolerated this for a bit but the bath was tiny and I couldn't really get comfy so decided that I would try the TENS. This worked well and I was sent to the Ambulatory room as they had balls and a TV in there as they thought it was the reall thing (can you tell I was not still convinced ). At about 7.30ish I leaked, no idea what, I thought it was my waters but the MW was unsure but a lot of plug had come away so was then allocated a home from home room and the pool was started to be filled, although I was not allowed near it and had to wait until 8.30 to be examined. They were handing over at this point and I am sure that the MW muttered something to the new one about thinking that I would not cope with the pool!!
At 8.15 my waters broke, and at this time I decided that I had had enough of the TENS so DH took this off and promptly electrocuted himself!!
The MW then helped me change at which point it was discovered that they were meconium so was hooked up to the monitorsby this point she was able to examine me so I moved on to the bed, and got greated with the words... You're fully dilated baby has heaps of hair!!'
Pushing started, I got sarcastic at some point as DH said something that he thought was encouraging, and Toby was born at 9.07am, with a 1st degree tear. It is documented that my active labour was 1 hour 14 minutes
I got skin to skin immediately and was a boobie monster from the start
I stayed overnight, and actually the girls were ace as Toby would not go into his crib for me and was determined to nipple feed
This week has been one of the hardest. but I wouldn't change it for the world
(oh and DH decided at 4am before we left to clear out his sock drawer )
