things no one ever told you

From what I remember it was all over in 5 mins, when a stork flew in the window and droped off my perfect smiling son into my lap. Sweet smelling flowers rained down from the sky and the birds and wild animals perched on the window ledge to see.

Midwife when i was having my daughter " you better have this baby before 3 because thats when my shift ends"

Oooops she came after 4 :D

Sadly I haven't met a madwife I liked yet...

This could be an issue!

Haha - my midwife's shift finished around 30 minutes before Maddie was born SO SHE WENT HOME!! And THANK GOD because the lovely lady who took over was absolutely fantastic and so sweet - it made a massive difference!

Wish I had a midwife who could say that, was in delivery so long I went through THREE shifts! And the last one stayed over

i remeber the midwife asking me to pee in to a bowl on the bed, because i'd been in labour for about 10 hours and no been to the loo...funnily it wasn't the first thing on my mind.... and have you ever tried peeing in to a bowl with your hubby and midwife asking relax..
YEH RIGHT!!... had to be catheterised  gave birth at 7.30 and at 10pm about 5 mins after hubby left mw asked if i had been for a wee since having ewan, stupidly i said no, so she warned me that if i didnt wee by midnigt i would have to be catherised again...  managed to wee after drinking most of the jug of water that was by my bed.

The care i recieved was shocking but i've heard some lovely birth stories and care. so please dont worry. i'm trying for me second now so must be mad!!

Thanks everyone for this heartwarming thread. I'm expecting no.2 and had a hard time with no.1 so it's nice to know I wasn't alone.

Really enjoyed reading this thread, apart from the fact how much it hurt, i have to say the loss of bodily functions!

first time ive read this thread and its classic ive laughed all the way through but cat what you said had me on the floor crying with laughter xxxxx

Hmmm.. well I have the choice of natural or section... think you've just helped me make up my mind ladies!

I remember after having my twins expecting to deflate as soon as they were out and I remember crying when my new night shirt that I had got (pre pregnancy size may I add  ) didn't fir me straight away!

i'll know that this time!

I never knew I would bleed to death, my bed looked like I was lying in a blood pool!

I never anticipated the pain of that first walk after c section from bed to the toilet!

I never knew that as someone mentioned earlier that I would bleed out clots the size of poo and that I would study them to assess if they were ok!

the fact that you cant win, first time mums are looked at as if they are niave and well if youve had more than one they act as if they are going to expect trouble of you as you know what you want.

never have an internal by a bloke consultant, ecspecially one with nails, god that smarted

think i agree with you vicki, not sure if i should read anymore of this!

Ooh - yes Sian - loss of bodily functions - that was a bit distressing afterwards I must admit.

I am sorry to say it, but for some people, it doesn't matter how many times you do your pelvic floor exercises, depending on the labour the muscles can still be utterly knackered for about 6 weeks after the birth.

THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE THOUGH - apparently a well toned pelvic floor can help enormously during birth so get squeezing ladies....!!!

dont know if ive said it,but when yu start throwing up you end up sitting on loo leaning over sink as your p!ssing yourself everytime you retch
