Hi girls, I'm slightly anemic, and docs said to take Iron tabs again.

Well this time round have been nice a regular if you know what I mean, compared to last time, so didn't want to mess with my system. She said well take one every other day instead then, so I took one on friday, and only just starting to get my system back to normal now on monday night! Been bloated and fat and uncomfy and bunged and tummy ache all weekend, to the point I was eating just soup to try not to overload and clear me out as was too bloated to feel hungry. I did only take the one tablet!!!

I remember some of the girls posting ages ago about some things to eat , other than spinich, lentils, chickpeas and brocoli, that would boost my iron quicker , but without the bottom issues (been doing the foods rich in iron since MC in march and low iron then, and it is lower now than after my blood tranfusion and iron tabs etc.

any ideas please , thanks lots JJ:lol:

I'm not really sure... maybe look up things with lots of iron and fibre combined, or maybe you might just have to grab yourself some fybogel :S
Let us know if you do find something!
[OH's mum recommended sprouts to me the other day!]

Sprouts! arghhh:wall2:

Thanks Leah - I have got Fybogel, but only used it when needed and it takes a day to work, suppose I could take it daily at same time as iron tablet thoo - erghh

Ooooh I quite like sprouts!

Well, I'm not reccomending it, because you've got to see your GP about it I think, but I've been using Andrew's Salts.
1tsp for indigestion, 2tsp for constipation. Quite often just the 1tsp makes me go sooner though, it's really helped me, as my heartburn has gotten SO bad lately, and the constipation is setting in....

I think the best bet would be to start your day with a high-fibre, iron-fortified cereal, like has been said xx

Thyme has a high level of iron in it, why not try adding some to gravy etc? xx

Forgot about the cereal , thanks mamafy
We do east some red meat and I have cut down on the eggs since I like them poaches or dippy eggs, but will have some more now. Also the chicken is a bit of an issue as I have 4 chickens in my garden, and so won't buy non free range chicken on principal- (so we only have a whole chicken once a month as they are £8!).

Thanks tho, will get reading my cereal boxes to see how much they have

Hope this helps:

have you tried the liquid iron stuff? i got it on MMs recommendation and i never got bunged up!

I'm taking iron water (Spatone) and it doesn't bung you up. One sachet has the equivalent of 2lbs of spinach in it!

Oh yeah! My Mum looooves ReadyBrek for keeping you regular!

Dried apricots are apperently good for iron (8 dried apricots (50g) 2.1mg).
