Hi ladies,

Is anyone else freaking out a bit over the constant stream of swine flue reports on the news?

I'd decided not to get the vaccine, but over the last few days it seems there's one terrifying report after another and doctors are urging all pregnant women to get it as a matter of urgency. But my midwife/doc hasn't mentioned it to me once at any of my appointments??!!

Is anyone thinking of getting it, or had it already?

Thanks,

Liz x

My friend is due in 4 weeks. She had swine flu last year and has it again. Very worrying.

My sisters had the jab and it made them both really ill so I've always avoided it.

What are you going to do?

Liz I had decided exactly as you had not to have the jab as I thought it would be very unlikely that I would get flu (I've never had it) and didn't want to risk any side effects on baby. Now, like you, I'm concerned about the publicity and wondering if I should be changing my mind?!

I can tell you now I won't be having any jabs unless its pethadine during labour!

I just think about all the women years ago that probably had a lot worse than flu, had to run the house and go on to have healthy babies. For me personally I don't think its worth the risk.

It is a personal choice tho and it's up to the individual to weigh it up

I had the flu jab about 8 weeks ago, apart from a sore arm for a day or too was fine,
Though feel really ill atm as a heavy cold lol, just want to take stuff and can't lol, really would love a lempsip :(

I've never been offered it and its never been metioned to me. I had just decided not to have it anyway. I do think the media does alot of scare mongering but it is a worry.

Thanks very much for getting back to me ladies :) Glad to know I'm not the only one having these concerns.

I think I've decided not to have it and I'm just crossing my fingers that I don't get it. So scary when you hear of pregnant ladies who have had it. Hope your friend is ok.

I think the media can blow things out of proportion sometimes and I have spoken with a doc today, but he just gave me the medical stance...."why not just have the jab...its perfectly safe etc etc" but then he's not the one pregnant. I'm sure it is safe, but you know what it's like when you're pregnant - you worry about taking a paracetamol! Rosa really pleased you're feeling ok after having it though.

I may just keep an eye on the news and see how this outbreak progresses...most of the cases are in the North West which is where I am!

Thanks again for all the advice xx

I had it done x I saw the leaflet for normal flu jabs and choose to have it done be had to rearrange form a cold i got. But after seeing all the people dying from swine flu I was like defo need to get it done now. I dont want to have to worry if I catch it and risk losing my baby I have wanted for a long time to concieve x

I got mine this morning - arm starting to get sore now but hopefully that will be the only side effect!

I'm not getting it! Don't trust them when they say its safe...in years to come they will say "it caused....such and such" I don't want to risk getting the jab! xx

I had it yesterday and have a sore arm, that's been it really. There have been so many pregnant women falling ill with the flu, puts extra strain on your heart and lungs. Who knows what's in anything we take. But as said, it's an individual choice.

i was pregnant last year aswell when the swine flu epidemic was in full flow, i got a letter with an appointment for the jab, but i didn;t want it so ignored it, after another 2 letters they gave in asking me to go for one, this time i have not had a letter yet but again i will not be having it, only my personnal opinion but not enough research has been put into it for me to be happy to have it whilst pregnant, plus the virus changes all the time from what i heard last time when i was researching it, plus in america last time they gave pregnant women a different version of it, so thats why i held off, i haven;t looked into it this year but sticking with my guns for the reasons i stated. I think its a very hard decision though as you dont know whats right you just have to feel at peace with your decision.

Am I the only person who hasn't seen any swine flu hype? Listen to the radio at work all day but haven't caught any tv news and haven't heard owt about it. Is the flu jab they've been pimping for weeks the same as the swine flu one? I haven't been approached for it but wouldn't have it anyway, but whenever I've had flu jabs in the past they've always made me feel unwell and I've never caught the flu when I've not had it, so not gonna bother either way.

Same as a lot of the other girls, I wouldnt get it, especially when pregnant. Its too new a drug in my opinion and they dont know if theres any long term affects which may not appear until decades later. Its a very small risk of catching it, your alot more likely to get normal flu. The media hype it up to much when its killed less people than normal flu does.

I didn't get the jab when I was pregnant last year and I caught the flu. Dunno if it was of the swine variety but it was really grim. I ended up with antivirals, not tamiflu tho, I had to inhale them.

My cousins little girl has just been diagnosed with swine flu but that's the first I had heard about it this winter xx

I had the swine flu jab last year, wasn't pg but due to my line of work they recommended it! But have to say i wont be getting it done again, my arm hurt for over a week, it was quite bad actually. So def def wont be getting it done againxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi all

I am booked in for my swine flu jab on the 29th December. I didnt see it on the tv, just heard through other people. I am in two minds of whether or not i should cancel the appointment. Does anyone know the risks of if I got swine flu whilst pregnant? I cant stop worrying about the fact that in 6 or 7 years time we may be looking back realising there are problems with our children because of this vaccine.

Please advise..
Thanks so much

Theres a lot of stuff if you google on it, but honestly no-one really knows if there are any sideaffects as its too new off a drug to tell.
I think its just a personal choice, alot of my family had it last year and the medication for it made them more ill than the actual flu... it is more dangerous for pregnant and elderly though.

I normally have the flu jab every year because of my asthma, they also gave me the swine flu jab last year. I had my usual flu jab about 5 weeks ago.

In my opinion you are all right & entitled to NOT have the jab, but then on the flip side those that have decided to HAVE the jab for reasons of pregnancy/asthma etc etc and now reading these threads & worrying about what they've done should think about how they would have felt if they hadnt had the jab and then contracted the flu/swine flu virus & something terrible happened to the baby, they would always blame themselves for not having the jab.

So whether you have the flu jab or not, both carry risks. Its your own personal choice at the end of the day.
