have been thinking about this for a little while now or more so since i spoke to my cousin. shes got 2 boys and said with her first it was a natural labour but with her 2nd she was induced and she told me try not to get induced as its much more painful .

i was wondering do you have to have a sweep or be induced if your waters havent broke what happens if you just wait and babys not stressed or anything? im absolutely petrified of having a sweep or getting induced now xx

Hiya my mw has said I can have a sweep on my due date :+) a sweep sounds uncomfy but not so much if ur cervix is loosning. A sweep on the membrane does not break waters its just to try to start contractions. Its purely ur decision to have one think they dont like u going ovet 12days of ur due date as ur placenta can become old and stop giving nourishment to baby. If baby is healthy etc thdy will let u go over due date but in my area u then have to go in each day to hospital to be monitored.

Being induced can be by many ways gel, injection ir,literally popping waters and yes im told thos is said to be more painful than if u do it naturally. Inducement is usually if there is a risk to u or baby ie small baby, larhe baby, someone with diabetes, someone which sweep hasnt worked on etc.

Sorry for typos im on here on phone xx

Hi girls,

I'm praying that things come naturally.. But I'm hardly helping myself! I should stay active and keep on moving!

I've heard many tales of terror regarding being induced! In sure you'll be fine xxx

Lol marley im.not moving and keeping moving I dont feel ready yet plus my mom wants me to try and aim for 7th oct her bday lol xxx

I had a sweep last week, it wasn't that bad, just a bit like getting a smear. it only took a few mins but it doesn't seem to have done anything. I'm due to be induced on Fri but still hoping she comes naturally before then as I've also heard being induced is more painful :-( Fingers crossed our babies arrive soon! X

Fingers crossed and toes crosse rach!!!

Keep us posted!!

Lucy I haven't moved for quite a while! Monday-thursday I didn't leave the house lol ! Too scared my waters were gonna break! X

not too soon for me, still got a while to cook. ok, didnt really know much about the sweep, my friend had one but she made it sound like they do things to you you wouldnt wish on your worst enemy :-s but if its just like a smear then thats not too bad i hope i dont go too over now aswell, dont wanna risk baby, i think ill only go for inducement if its absolutely necessary. dont mind the sweep but probably would wanna wait 7 days. hope hes like my sis and come on the same day or 9 days after hehe xmas baby and all that. hope something happens quick for you rachcraig and fx no inducements for any of us x

Induction is supposed to be more painful, I'll be refusing it if I go over, a lot of the research is outdated now and we get put into a 40 week box but each baby and each woman is different. Im not planning on a sweep either, i dont see the point really, baby will come when its ready and they dont seem to work most of the time, i had one a week before labour last time, pointless, I was only just 40 weeks then! They can monitor you more closely if you refuse to be doubly sure everything is ok. Often it's not always needed and another couple of days would have been enough, depends if the cervix is ripe and starting to dialate on it's own, duno why they suddenly need to 'speed things up' if the women is coping!

I was induced with my first slightly unpleasent as there are a few internals involved my waters broke when i was1 and half cm dilated managed with gas and air. My second was natural and cant say i noticed much of a difference between either labour. I labour quite quick 5 hrs with my 1st (from waters breaking was on a drip too) and with second some cramps from 10 am went to hos at 16.20 (4cm) had him at 19.01. being induced with this one due to severe SPD at 38 weeks. xxx

I had an awful labour, my induction didnt go well at all. Looking back now, my babys head wasnt engaged and my cervix was not soft yet so my body was NOT ready, neither was my baby. I still wonder if somehow my dates were wrong, he was a little baby and didnt know how to feed or anything when he was finally born by section.

I will definately never allow anyone to meddle in my labour again! Ive even considered lying about the date of my last period to avoid it

yeah i think im gonna be the same as you girls. i think im gonna avoid it if possible and let him come on his own accord. one of my mates hated being preg so much she was begging the docs for an induction by 38 weeks. shes quite outspoken so think got her way and she said shed do it again. but i dont want to rush leandro so gonna wait and see what happen. will have it dont if necessary though. got an appointment with the anaesthetist on wed so gonna speak to them and see what they say. i aswell dont see why they want to rush you. i wonder what happened before inducing was there x

This makes intereresting reading http://www.theunnecesarean.com/blog/2009/10/3/postdates-separating-fact-from-fiction.html
Like titch was saying often it's obvious the baby wasn't really over due and ready to be born but because we never truly know when we ovulated and actually conceived we're all put into the 28 day cycle to be given a due date. I always think of other women not in the western the world who get no medical care so they don't even know their due date and have babies just fine all the time! Least we get the luxury of being monitored when we do go 'over' the 42 weeks to check placenta still healthy.

i had a sweep with my first and sorry but it hurt like hell, i had a male consultant and felt abused i was crying when i came out. It got me started though.
