One of my mate is pregnant and shes now a week overdue... gone to hospital induced last Thursday till now no sign of labour.. Is this normal? she kept saying I have no pain nothing at all...Hospital haven't sweep her yet t because they said something about it way up and it was close.. now she'll get induced by doctors now...

poor mate spend in hospital for three days so far and no sign of baby.. that's scary?

has she been given a pessary?

the way up and closed is her cervix its way at the back and closed meaning her cervix isnt ready for labour
normally they would give gel or a pessary to soften the cervix so they can then sweep her cervix taking away the cervical plug this is sometime not enough so more gel/pessary is needed
once the cervix is favourable they might start her on a drip to kick start contractions or break her waters if they can get her cervix to open they might not break her waters yet though as then they are on a time frame of how long they have to get the baby out

they can only sweep once her cervix becomes more favourable so if its still not favourable more pessary or gel will be used to make it that way :)

My friend needed to be induced, she went just under 43 weeks overdue. They tried everything, over and over. He was born eventually, all 10lb-something of him (he is so CUTE!) but yes, it took forever. Where as my friend who had her girl just over a month ago, went 2 weeks early, but when she got to fully dilated, she never got that pushing urge and despite trying, needed a section. Sometimes our bodies just don't work like they're meant to. But they'll try more pessaries and there's the drip etc, so she'll be fine - it can take days for anything to work xxx

if it's any reassurance i went 9 days overdue on a Thursday morning 7:30am.... induced with the pessary

Checked Thursday night... no progress

Friday - more pessary.... no progress

Saturday - finally 1cm dilated from the pessary's - waters broken 12 midday - epirual and syntocin drip...

Sunday - Josie born at 2:03am.

Although i say "no progress" above when i read back through my notes the pessarys were slooowly working and the cervix was slowly getting softer and moving forwards on the first 2 days... just took a longer time than i had known anyone else be in hospital for.

Since then i have spoken to several women who have had a similar experience with the length of time it took to work.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer for your friend now... it get's you down when it takes so long for things to get going... especially when it can work so quickly for others! Best of luck and hope it's quick now for her x x x
