I know strictly speaking I shouldn't be in Tri1 :whistle::whistle::whistle:
BUT there's something I want to ask you girlies.

Are any of you supersticious?
About the baby, I mean...
Do you believe in the "old wives tales'" about pregnancy?
Things like bringing in baby things too earlier, not having pram wheels in the house etc etc

I only ask because when we were preggers the first time, we kept all the baby things out - EXCEPT I forgot, and brought a baby-gate into the house.

The second time we had just moved, and we took the Cot-Bed we'd been given from the first, and put it in the new house just in case - and I fell pregnant.

Both of these pregnancies ended in a M/C however.

Now, I'm not blaming the furniture for the M/C's, it was just to let you know what inspired the question.

So... When do/did you start putting baby things in the house, and why?

I've got baby things in the house but for some reason I won't bring a pram in until babys born! I did it with lacey and I'll do it again with little man! I'm not overly supersitious but I won't walk on 3 drains or under a ladder! So silly cos it's all rubbish! I think I get it all from my mum as she even throws salt over her shoulder lol

I only had clothes, nappies, wipes etc.. Things that were needed for the hospital.. I paid my pram off and left it over in the shop and it got picked up the day Odhrán was coming home for the carseat.. Moses baskets (1 for up 1 for down) weren't brought in until the day Odhrán was coming home.. (1 in sisters and 1 in OH's).. Food wasn't bought until we were home and my mummy went out and got it... Same with the bath etc.. Majority of the big things were brought in the day we were getting home or a few days after.. Although I bought a sneaky pair of baby socks at 8 weeks from Baby Gap and hid them in my underwear drawer so they wouldn't count  Mine and OH's family are superstitious so I kinda just went along with it xx

Okay, i think superstision is very much person led
so if you believe that having a pram in the house is going to be 'bad' then it probably will be

however if you dont... then it wont be

its YOU that creates the energy around inanimate objects by thinking 'by having that here something bad might happen' its that thought process that creates it - not the object

I won't even look at baby stuff until 12 weeks but we said as soon as we have that first scan we can start getting ready :)

I had all my baby stuff in the house b4 any of my children were born, didn't buy big things till later on but never fancied having to arrange 4 stuff to b dropped off wen I had a new baby 2 look after xx

I have allowed myself to buy 2 outfits for 2 reasons.
1 - I wanted to be the first to buy something for baby, daft I know but I didn't want to miss out on that.
2 - I just needed something small to get it out my system so I didn't go on a mad spending spree before I needed too.

All i bought was a sleepsuit with a giraffe on and one with a zebra on because I have such a thing for animals on baby stuff right now and I left it that. I must say the best bit was showing John cause he just melted into a big puddle of mush which is so unlike him he he :)

I have drawer where i have some bits we bought the prm but that is at my?mums and oh wont buy nyhthing else til 20 week scan

I wouldn't start buying untill 12 weeks but am leaving most of it untill after 20 weeks. The only thing that I wont bring into the house is the pram, again I think because of the superstitions of older reletives. The only things I really have are some clothing, nappy stuff and toiletries. I have also just picked up a changing table (because it was an awesome deal XD)

xxxx

My hubbie is very supersticious and doesnt want to bring anything into the house until baby is born. although i dont want to buy anything until at least the 12 week or even 20 week scan i am happy to start getting stuff thereafter. if for anything to not have a the stress of having to spend out lots of money at once. also if i see a bargain i usually cant resist!!xx

my mil took our pram when i was pregnant the 1st time but this time we bought pram at 6 weeks and had it in house with everythin else - cot, steriliser absolutely everythin. i had clothes from before we even conceived just little things i piked up in the sales becos we were trying lol. its a personal thing chick but hope all works out for u this time xxx

we have been buying things more or less straight away but my mum said i cant have the pram wheels in the house till baby is born x

we didnt buy any of the big stuff like pram, cot etc till i was over 30 weeks gone with my LO ( will do the same this time round too)
we wont buy any baby clothes/stuff untill the 20 week scan. also wont talk about baby names untill after the 20 week scan xx

I didnt personally buy anything until after the 12 weeks scan, not because of superstition though, just wanted to check everything was ok. But other people (mainly my mum lol) started buying things straight away.

I brought the pram at 20 weeks, and its been under my bed since :) Ive got everything else in my room as well, moses basket, bath ect, and its all been there for a while now. I dont see the problem with having it in the house before hand :D

All personal choice really. x

Cor no wonder people spend so much money on baby stuff!!!!

i would never have got the bargains i got without digging early and often!

I won't be buying anything before 14 weeks I think.

I don't think it is a spersticious thing fokr me, just that I don't want to buy anything and then be disapointed if something happened before then, and having objects you can hold or touch ,mke it all the more real.

My sister has all her old stuff, for me, in her loft, she was just going to clear it all out and give it away when I told her I was pregnant last time, I told her early to get dibbs on her things, my kids are older so we don't really have anything left, and can't afford to start again with it all. Once we tell the kids, then I will arrange to collect it all and move it to our loft,so I can free her up and see what goodies we have!
Dying to know what pushchair it is, I know it's black - that's all!

I think that's the main reason behind the supersticion to be honest.

i didnt get anything until about 16 weeks,

now i have my cot & mattress, bedding, car seat, some nice cream, lemon n green clothes because were team yellow, and iv got my pram & collecting it in 5 weeks time when we come back from holidays,

i like to be prepared and am not really superstitious at all, but didn't want to buy anything until after my scan (we had only told parents at this point) incase anything went wrong, i remember my mum having 4 miscarriages after me and it was heartbreaking for her and upsetting for me as a kiddy so didnt want to jynx anything,

but im looking forward to being able to go into the nursery and look at everything n smell it all b4 he/she is here :) :oooo:

xxx

im not superstitious.
I already have all Joes things in here and if I had a m/c id put it down to nature taking its course not cause I have baby things in the house.

This is how i see it too. I think if somethings going to happen then it will happen, not because you have baby things already in the house. Ive been collecting things (mostly from asda's baby event) since we started TTC in november. Its all stored in baskets and drawers in our spare room xxx
