I am a bit desperate here, trying to give Matilda the Gaviscon with a syringe is proving to be very difficult!

Does anyone have any tips?

She either chokes on it or spits it out :(

I've even tried cup feeding her the Gaviscon unsuccessfully.

I generally tilt his head back slightly and do it in 2 goes. Half, wait for the gulp, second half, gulp. If he spits some of it out use a spoon to collect the excess and have a third go.

You can also get medicine dummy things. Don't know how well they work but I make sure Sophie's tilted back a bit when she has any medicine

yeah give it in 2 halfs and try get it twords the back of her tongue and stick a dummy or boob if u have to in her mouth straight away to get her to swallow it all

Are you ff or bf hun?????

Just that in scbu when AJ was having gaviscon then he had it in the teat part of the bottle andhe sucked it out cos he thought it was milk. x

hospital told me to use a calpol spoon when giving harry his formula top up in hospital but he managed fine with the syringe, has it got a pointed spout on the end as he didnt like it bashing against him gums, i know with some childrens medicines they have got the pointy bit cut off so it's flat and it seems to work better

When I was syringe feeding Albert the colostrum I found down the side of his cheek was best and little amounts each time. They are so sneaky though and normally find a way to get rid of it

This is what we did with gripe water x

I'm breastfeeding. The doc told me to give it in a bottle but I really don't want to jeopardise the progress we have made so far.

I've just tried again and the poor little bugger choked on it!! :( bad mummy.

I would use an infacol pipette, aim for the back down the side of the cheeks. If you use a spoon try squeezinp his cheeks together and leaving the spoon in his mouth until your sure its been swallowed but the pipette should0 be the easiest.

we syringe fed at the start - 40mls via syringe!! the way we were told was to put your pinky in there mouth and when they start sucking then slowly squeeze the syringe in (the actually suck it out)

means they will still suck for milk etc and not get confused

We had the same issue with the syringe! LO wouldn't take the gaviscon from a bottle (he is bf, but takes a bottle of expressed milk fine). We just had to do it a few drops at a time and he would swallow most of it amidst screaming and crying :-( Luckily he didn't need it for v long. U have my sympathy hun, getting gaviscon into bf babies is hard! Infacol pippet sounds like a good idea x
