Ladies I need some advice...

I had 2 tri 1 miscarriages last year and have just found out this week I'm pregnant again. I've spoken to my dr and she's suggested i have small dose steroid injections throughout tri 1 to help prevent another mc. Has anyone had this or been recommended to have this? I've read some things on dr google so I'm a bit apprehensive xxx

Firstly congratulations :)
This is just my opinion- I never thought there was a way to prevent misscarriages? If you're feeling uneasy about it then don't do it hun. When I was pregnant I had puppps and they wouldn't prescribe me anything with steroids in as it could be harmful to my little lottie.
Just do what you think is right. Good luck xxx

I think this is a new thing? I heard in the news something about steroids and mc treatment. That may be different not sure, there are things that can help prevent mc ^^ and if I you have blood clotting disorders there's injections that can help stop misscarriages happening , but yeah stay off google there's will be so much crap on there. Go back and speak to your docter instead , tell her your worried and she will probably ease your mind an explain it better. they won't prescribe you something that will cause harm as they have to be extra careful with pregnancy, I think it sounds like it could be quite good any thing that might help is a bonus ,x

Thanks for your replies girls much appreciated. I'm taking aspirin and progesterone so hopefully that's enough. I'll just kick myself if I don't take them then I mc again. Anyway I have appt on Thursday so I'll see what she says xxx

I've never heard of steroids in particular but I was about to get started on treatment for Natural Killer Cells after three Tri 1 miscarriages in less than a year. This isnt me taking medical advice from the Daily Mail, FYI, it's just the only article I could find which sort of explained it :) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...rsial-egg-yolk-oil-jabs-theyre-mums-last.html I was going to get started on a course of this without the IVF as they believed I was perfectly fertile, good eggs etc. but that my body was attacking the cells. However, I got pregnant again straight after my last miscarriage and instead kept taking baby aspirin (I was from two weeks pre BFP for first time - stopped at 32 weeks), 400mg cyclogest progesterone twice a day (until 18 weeks), and double dose of folic acid, and I've made it this far (+34 weeks). I also quit my very stressful job which I think may have helped too.

From everything I've read and been told, 2 or 3 miscarriages is actually really quite common so super fingers crossed you've just had two bouts of enough bad luck and keep taking the prog and aspirin. I honestly believe that and less stress worked wonders for me and seems too for so many ladies - have everything crossed for you x

Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate. I had appointment with the dr today and expressed my concerns and she said it's totally up to me and if I don't feel comfortable then don't take them but she recommends them. They're called Prednisone so she's given them away with me to think about xxx

I took prednisolone with my current pregnancy, as well as Clexane, baby aspirin, progesterone and high dose folic acid.

I also had high dose steroids a few days after transfer as I developed a sore throat which can be a sign that an immune response is happening and your body may reject the embryo.

I'm a nurse and hubby is a Dr so we researched this thoroughly prior to agreeing the steroids. For us the benefits outweighed the 'tiny' risks.

What dose of prednisolone has your Dr suggested?

xxxx

I'm gently rocking the result of taking prednisolone, fragmin, aspirin, vit d and progesterone in tri1 from ov :)
I had 4 mc though, it was only after the 4th they suggested the steroids.
I did a lot of reading about mc theories. Basically there are several specialists out there who have very different opinions. Opportunity for research in this area is understandable limited so each specialist relies heavily on their own experience rather than "evidence". Most of the heavyweights in this speciality worldwide seem to have polar opposite opinions just to confuse you. For me steroids make sense as I have a lots of "atopic" problems (asthma, eczema, hayfever).
Bear in mind too though that progesterone is a steroid hormone and does have an "anti-inflammatory" effect on the womb too (which is what the prednisolone is prescribed for), so that may be enough on its own. Its so hard deciding whether to go "all in" with taking things vs regret if things go wrong. You'll never know for sure what the right decision is, which is so hard.

Good luck this pregnancy x

Thanks for the replies, we've discussed it and decided not to take the steroids this time. If i do unfortunately mc again then we'll reassess for next time but for now I'm thinking positive and taking my progesterone, aspirin and Pregnacare xxx

That's really interesting Mishi - each MC/MMC I've had is when I've had a cold/chest infection in the early weeks. I also have Lupus and my gut feeling is my body attacks the wrong 'invader'.

With DD however I had a steroid injection for a flare up in week 6/7.

Think I'll be doing some research on this - thanks Mishi xx
