I think they have to do it now whether you smoke or not. I haven't smoked in over w years but still had to do it. It'd to check carbon monoxide too xx

I had one. I don't smoke. I think it's a great idea, if it gives you a kick up the backside to realise how much fumes the baby's getting. Hopefully it might spare a few people on to quit xx

I agree with xjdx think it may make women realise what they are doing if they do smoke.
I suppose it can come across as sneaky but i also think if u are having trouble quitting u shouldnt lie to the mw and say u have stopped. At the end of the day if mw knows someone is still smoking they can be prepared for whatever complications that may bring.
I have never smoked in my lilfe and still had a reading of 1 rather than 0 so i think everyone has a bit if carbon monoxide in their system x

I was asked if I smoke - which I don't, but never had to do a test.

I didn't have to do a test either. I would happily have done so though. If it helps mw offer better more tailored care to smokers who lie about their circumstances then that's the most important thing. I guess they know from experience that mums aren't always honest about whether they smoke or not. X

Yes I guess so ,If I smoked I would have said but of course many women would not ! my reading was 1 as well anything under 4 is normal she said

My MW told me that it's not just to check if you smoke but the environment you are in. For example some people's jobs involve them going into other people's smokey homes or she told me about one lady who worked at tesco petrol station and had high levels of carbon monoxide so her work moved her to in the store.

x

I guess you think you would, but maybe if you did actually smoke and were worried about being judged or perhaps you were ashamed of it or convinced you were going to quit asap, you might think you could get away with saying you don't smoke while you cut down/quit?! I dunno. I've never been a smoker so I can't identify with it, but I suppose there is (rightfully) a lot of negativity surrounding smoking and pregnancy, so plenty of reasons to bend the truth and hope no-one notices??
