My 4 year old daughter is reading level 5 Oxford Reading Tree Books!! She has just swam her 5m badge and in general is the best daughter in the world (OK a little biased). She will be 5 in 3 months but is so ahead of herself for her age. I admit I am a bit pushy but honest this is now real self driven she loves reading and often reads 3/4 books a night. Luckly I buy books of e-bay otherwise we would be broke.

Little side message to laura she was bottle fed and see it hasn't done any damage to her development - enjoy the now forget the past because people normally only judge you on the now!!

Showing off over. Thanks for indulging me!

im trying to make the connection between being bottle fed and reading 4 books a day

have i missed something?

thats great about your daughters reading well done to her, and her swimming :)

yes its great! mine all go swimming too and they love reading!

There is no connection Budge but Laura in another post said she felt a bit down about not breastfeeding and I was just trying to say to her to not be too hard on herself because it hasn't done my child any harm.

but why should it?

no one should feel down if they can't or don't want to breast feed. its personal choice :) .

too many people make themselve miserable if they can't breastfeed and its really not worth it.

I know what you are saying but I can relate to laura.

Because breast is best! if you can't do it you feel like a failure and even if you don't want to do it you feel like your not being a proper mum. When they are babies the only real thing they do is eat so if you feel like you are giving them second rate food then you feel like a second rate mum (I know it sounds daft).

To be honest it is difficut to describe how you feel when you can't/won't do it. I think it is one of those things that you understand when you have been there yourself. I know that I have often felt judged and embarassed when talking to or being with other mums that have been breastfeeding. Most of the time that is not because of them but beause of how I feel.

Anyway back to bragging isn't my daughter fab!!!

im not sure where you wanted this post to lead freya. but yes your daughter sounds fab chick :)

I wasn't really trying to make a political statement I honestly just wanted to brag about my daughter!! I know I shouldn't really because these things do come back and bite you!!!!

She sounds a little gem.

Doesn't hurt to have a little showing off session, think we all do it about our kids :D

Thats Fab!!

I am chuffed with my DD as she has been in key stage 4 (age 8-9) since key stage 1 and is only 6 now so I know how it feels when they are gifted but I dont push her as I find it can hold them back when they are older.

I was reading fully at 4 years old and was pushed constantly by my Mother I was made to read Dickens at 9 and Tolkien at 10 no fun,Lord of the Rings is boring at the best of times let alone to a 10 year old who would rather play Barbies,to make it worse Mother used to ask me questions, lol

I left school with 9 G.C.S.E's.6 A's,2 B's and 1 C and that wasn't good enough so I sodded off and did my own thing.

She sounds a joy though Freya, have you bought those books they can fill in the Maths and English? They keep them quiet for oh an hour or so! Lol..

Oh and breast-feeding I did it but I only did it because it was cheaper and I found it easy, not because I think one thing is better than the other.

yeah thats my main reason! Its free and so easy - no messing with heating up milk etc.
I also love the closeness and naturalness of it. :)

hiya
im not sure if im the laura in question. Thanks, that was nice of you, im feeling a bit more chilled about it. It wasnt so much that I couldnt because I couldnt with my first and felt no guilt even to this day but with Joe, i didnt feel I tried hard enough. But, at 15lb 9oz he is calling the shots.

Thats great about your daughter and her reading. Its lovely to see them coming on with things like this.

Can I have a brag too. Jessica can count to 5 in spanish (thanks dora), comes out with some pigeon spanish and can do 35 peice jigsaws with a little help. Can do 15 peice jigsaws with no help.

Arent they a pleasure.

Ooh Ooh My turn! Jaycee can count to 6 (english only but working on spanish) Shes known all her colours since she was 16months, all her animals and their sounds, she can draw apples, grass with flowers and a sun, a banana, grandad's truck (with rubbish on the back-of course!), She can draw a 'J' for jaycee, She knows how to make a (pretend) cup of tea :D And knows where everything is
Also she drew this last month, which i think is quite good for her age!
She carried on to finish the other arm and legs but she usually rubs them off to fast for me to get a pic as u can see on the right-a remainer of the previous drawing lol

So proud of my lil munchkin! She can do lots more but my brain doesnt seem to be functioning properly today

Can I have a turn???

I bitch about Callum a lot, and take the mickey out of him (in a nice way), but he has a reading age of 16+, and will be starting his IT GCSE in January with Daniel.

Even the most difficult children have a talent somewhere, it just takes time to find it!!!

Hey,

Haven't we got a bunch of talented kids. This has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

A great big    to all of us and our fab kids.
