Hi ladies

Bit of a strange question but I have been wondering, when in labour, do they remove all the hair from your lady bits? If so, I was thinking I would do this myself before I go to hospital rather than having someone else do it! lol.

On a pratical note DO NOT WAX OR SHAVE as it can cause broken skin which could make you more prone to infection in hospital-just think about everything your skin will be in contact with during birth- blood/ fluid/ poop......

If during a csection part of your bikini line needs to be shaved the midwife will do it with electric clippers

That's the advice from my hospital xxxx

For a normal delivery no they dont. TBH I wouldnt shave down there either except a tidy up as if you ahev stitches can be really itchy and painful. X

No they dont normally, but as I was getting induced I knew I was going in so shaved the night before and I was fine xx

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tidy your bits up a little bit. Make it a rule to begin keeping it trim and tidy from about 36 weeks onwards. I was going to do this but was induced at 35 weeks! So I was caught very off guard, and all I kept thinking beforehand was how I'd not trimmed my bits or shaven my legs! Luckily my OH did both those for me during the first night of my induction at the hospital :)

You won't care about the state of your lady garden once you're in labour though - and none of the staff will care either.

I wouldn't shave the haven completely! Just have a trim and tidy up round the edges!! I had an unexpected internal yesterday and just thought oh well they'll have seen worse - and they will have had to see ladies who haven't even had time to or be bothered to shower beforehand!!

Double checked with DH but they never shaved anything for my c section. I would mind but I had a right growler too :D just couldn't get down there for a tidy when I was that far along.

To be honest I never shaved - partially because I was caught off guard as I had my daughter two weeks early but also because I had read in a thread on here before that it becomes really itchy when the hair grows back in!

And boy it does! I shaved about 2 days before I went into labour and its just properly growing back now... I swear the itchyness is so not worth it because if your like me, I'm scared incase I catch my stitches :|

But whatever you choose just remember - you leave your dignity at the door and midwifes have seen it all before! They have probably seen a lot worse so it should be the least of your problems hun!

xxx

I dont completely shave now, i just trim it and shave the my bikini line, I even have to get my partner to do it because i cant see over my ever expanding bump! so god knows what ill be like when i'm ready to drop!

I'm so glad I found this post as I had planned to get waxed in preparation. I shall now be borrowing hubby's clippers and coping with a number 2 all over! Xx

This did make me giggle

I didn't wax or shave it completely off when I had E. She was over a month early but I made sure I had a shower and shaved my legs, bikini line and :bum:crack (sorry tmi lol as I was concious it was a bit hairy but dont think it actually was) before I left for the hospital.

I'm glad this post is up though as I was wondering what others do, but I agree with Levi89, your dignity goes out the door once you are in labour and they would've seen worse. xx

Im so glad someone posted this i did wonder. I think from the advice given i will just have a tidy up and bikini line! Thank you girls always useful! xx
