Many of you may have seen my post on thu 20th freaking out that I thought waters had gone - boy did I not for see the rest of the night haha!
Had spent all day thu with hubby doing last minute stuff, met photographer, cleaned, batch cooked etc, just generally really busy, had nothing all day other than odd aches and pains. Had a bath that night cos back was a bit achy and psyched myself up to dtd. So dtd, lay there for 10 feeling like I was back in ttc, letting the sperm do it's stuff! Hubby got me a tissue to 'sort myself out' and loads came out. I was like 'god babe, looks like you haven't sorted yourself out in a while' haha, it just kept coming. Stood up to go sit on the toilet and clear liquid ran down my leg. Sat on toilet and weed so kinda told myself if was just maybe urine (was just in total denial) put a pad on and it seemed to stop. Walked around and 20 mins later started again but it just seemed to little to be waters. Phoned triage who advised me to go in as I had group b strep and if I was waters they would induce. Got to triage and they confirmed that pad looked like waters and I was taken up to delivery. Doc checked me about 1am and it was back waters that went do they burst front waters. This wasn't even bad at all ladies and I thought it would have been! Checked me and I was 1-2 cm but still thick lining. Decided to put me on inducement drip, also started iv antibiotics for strep b.
Drip was Inserted at 4am and cranked up every 30 mins. Contractions started right away, a bit stronger than period pain, almost like when you have diarhoea cramps. Sent hubby for a sleep as I knew I would need him more later and I was labouring ok myself. Say on the ball in just my vest and pants and breathed through them. They were coming really quick maybe a minute in between but only lasting 30secs. Had paracetomol about 5. Mw asked of I wanted gas and air but I thought I had a long time ahead And wanted to space out pain relief. Was getting checked at 8 so hoped to to til then without anything else.
By 745 they were getting pretty unbearable and I wasn't getting long in between at all ( drip was reduced a few times as this was happening) got gas and 8 then and got up on bed and felt instant relief, I loved it! It spaced me out while sucking on it but your brought back prett quick after stopping sucking. Mw checked at 8am and I was 4cm dilated now and softened lining so was all working good. 'You'll have your baby by 6 hours she said!' Contractions were really strong by then but still just using gas, all of a sudden at 8.10 a contraction hit that just took
Over me, was unlike all the others. I remember writhing about saying the band for monitoring was digging in and trying to get it off and all of a sudden felt a searing pain and baby literally slide down. I screamed that she had dropped and I needed to push. The mw looked at me as if yeah right! And calmy put her gloves on taking her time, clearly not believing me. The shock on her face said it all - baby was down and ready to push on the space of ten mins.
New mw had come on shift and night one wanted to stay on to see baby so had 3 midwives during pushing. Panic had kinda hit me that I was having to do this on gas only but I really tried to just focus. I found pushing hard as panic and pain were taking over so me put her fingers in me and I pushed against them cos it felt better for me. Felt like an age cos babies head just would get round (you could actually feel her trying to get over it and sliding back when she didn't and contraction was over) anyway 40 mins later I felt head come over and it took about 30 seconds for head to fully come out, it's true what they say about ring of fire and I grazed at top of labia which stung so bad as she was coming out. Her head sat there for gas and got to see it which was amazing, next contraction wasn't for a minute or so which felt like forever and with next push her body slid out and she was put straight on me. Scarlett was born at 9.16 am weighing 6lb 10.5 oz. Was the most amazing feeling ever. Got jag for placenta and next contraction I pushed that out ( not sore at all which I was worried about just a strange sensation.
Mw checked me for tears and I had grazed inside near my perineum and graze on labia so she got doc to check and agreed on stitches. I got so scared and worked up as this had been my fear. Hubby took baby and my sis who had been there through the pushing (had arrived at 8 expecting a long labour!) and she held my hand while stitches were done. I was so
Worried about getting local but honestly wasn't that bad and I was still sooking on has and air. Everytime she parted my foof tho I was screaming that I could feel it. After being told more Than once by everyone in the room 'it's just pressure not pain' I was climbing they walls sucking on gas and air. She started the stitches withe screaming and panicking on gas and air that I could feel it and right enough when she got to the sore bit with the stitch I screamed and she was like 'oh yeah I haven't put local in that area' I wanted to punch her there and then. She gave me more local and i lay to get 11 stitches but by then I was so traumatised that I was crying like a girl. It was horrendous! I would have done labour agin rather than that and can't help but feel let down by doc and it's really spoiled my birthing experience.
Anyway calmed down when it was done and was in shower an hour later and up to ward.
Baby Scarlett is amazing and worth every second!!
