Hi Ladies,

Sorry to be greedy and start another thread

Well I had my scan yesterday and it was a big fat waste of time, they need to see my between CD2 and CD5 to get a true picture.

I knew this was the case but when I was there on Friday the nurse that booked the scan checked with the Dr and he said it was OK for me to come 'anytime'. Oddly the same nurse was sitting in on my scan so she confirmed what my specialist said...

The Dr that scanned me was a nasty, rude bitch who made me feel horrible before it even began.

She was asking me questions and when I said I still drink alcohol moderately she looked at me as though I said I smoke crack!! She told me I should not be drinking at all. I went on to say I don't drink in my 2ww and she gasped - she said "binge drinking" in even worse.

There after that I answered a few questions incorrectly and had to correct myself meaning she had to go back and edit, all of which she did whilst sighing.

I had her, the nurse and another Dr in for the scan - which took about 15 minutes. Usually my internals have lasted 5 minutes max.

The Dr said she wants me to come back at the right time BUT she scanned me as I was there (Gee - thanks!)

She reckons there is a 50% chance I have polycystic ovaries? WTF? Where did that come from?

The only positive thing that come out of it was that she could tell I am about to Ov from my right ovary very soon... Although OPK last night said otherwise !! However she showed me my right and left ovary and showed me the shadow that means I am gearing up to ov... So she told me to get cracking.

So as well as blood tests on CD2 I know have to have a scan early in my period and I am really heavy in the early few days (I mean really heavy!!)

So that's me !!

Pi55ed off after another less than fruitful appointment BUT at least I have a shot of getting preggers I guess.

Aw  I can't believe she was so rude! especially saying that you binge drink cos you don't have anything i you 2ww! thats ridiculous, stupid cow! AND getting the timing of the scan wrong, numpties! My sister yesterday found she was booked into a shoulder clinic when she'd hurt her knee. So many of these people don't know their arse form their elbow! yet we have to put all our faith in them!

Polycystic ovaries means nothing unless they say you have the syndrome (which requires blood tests to diagnose) I've got loads of cysts on both ovaries but bloods are fine! the fact that you've been able tog et pregnant means you are ovulating which is one of the big problems with PCOS and lots of women have cysts on their ovaries and don't know about
it til they are scanned for some other reason.

Erugh to scanning whilst heavy with af, thats icky!
Hope you OK hun xxx

Sorry about your poor sister's plight Dysco

I know I am lucky to even be able to have these investigations on the NHS but still - I'd prefer they didn't do anything if they aren't going to do it properly!

Dr just mentioned Polycystic Ovaries not PCOS?

As usual I am more confused than ever.

As for getting the timing wrong, I expected no less to be honest!

I know - what a pain hey!

I have another question for you all.

Every single ovulation calculator I have looked at puts my fertile time somewhere between 14th- 22nd Jan (CD13 - CD21) however I was only at CD10 yesterday and the Dr said I am getitng ready to Ov and should be having sex now.

Does this mean I Ov earlier than I thought every month, or can you Ov at different times each month? I would have asked but I was in such a tizz I just wanted to get out!!

I have a 29-30 day cycle?

I tried an OPK last night and it was negative BUT I am inclined to believe the Dr in the instance (as opposed to my bargain OPK's) She actually showed me my right ovary...

I know that two of my m/c's have occured from the egg released by my right ovary

God... just read Miss July's post about her ordeal yesterday as well!!! It is so annoying that these hospitals just give out the wrong info all of the time and waste everyones time!!

I second what Dysochick said and would not worry too much about the PCOS until you have at least had a AMH blood tests done and other blood tests. I don't undertand what she means by 50/50?? Perhaps some of the PCOS girls can help you on here.

As for rude staff, that annoys me as well. You would think that a women would be a bit more understanding.

As for the drink issue ignore it. I really do not believe now that drink makes much of a difference when to comes to TTC. My cousin gave up drinking for 2 years in order to TTc and it never happened for her. I enjoy a few glasses of wine at the weekends and I also gave up drinking for months and months and again it did not make any difference. What about all these women who drink in their 2 ww before they know they are pregnant and have healthy babies?? Don't get me wrong I don't beleive it is good to drink AT ALL when you are pregnant, but a few glassse of wine at the weekend won't hurt anyone. Ignore that snide remark.

As for the timing of the scan, I was told I could have it done at any time of the month, I had mine done on day 10. It is very good to hear you are ovulating though. It took me months to get a postive on the ovulation sticks so get with it. I think I POAS every single day from CD1 and see when you get a positive. I would have thought that if you have PCOS then you would not ovulate, but again perhaps the the girls on here can eloborate on that.

Sorry to hear it was a bad day hon. Hugs

Carnet

Just seen your new post. I have a 25/26 day cycle and ovulation stick forms tell me that I should start POAS from day 8/9, however I actually do not ovulate until day 13/14 so totally out of sync of what they are telling me on the forms. I would buy the cheap ovulations sticks and wee on them every single day for one month to give you an idea. Do it in the afternoon. You can buy them from Amazon for £5.50 for around 30 of them. Ovulation gave me a right headache and I worried so much that I wasnt ovulating at all. The scans were telling me ovulated but i just could not work out when it was happening, so keep doing them every single day, right from CD1 if you have to. It as the only way I ever worked it out. Once you get a better idea then move on to the more digital expensive ones.

PS I have just remembered that when I had my first scan I was told borderline PCOS and got a bit worried but them I had a AMH level blood test which was 19 and it had to be over 60 for PCOS. I hope this puts your mind at ease. Try and get this done via the NHS. If not I have the AMH level done at Harley street for £90.00. I know it is all money it put my mind at ease.

Love Gizzy xxxx

Thanks Gizzy,

I think what she meant about 50/50 was that she just couldn't tell from that scan so she needs to re-scan me at another time.

I asked if it was correct that women with polycystic ovaries means its hard to concieve [as opposed to having recurring m/c's] and the Dr just said "sometimes that is the case" - cowbag *thanks Corrine for that wonderful term* :)

As for the not drinking any alcohol at all - I wanted to scream "you try getting through 3 fcuking miscarriages without a few glasses of wine"

I admit that I overdid it with the booze at crimbo but I knew that from January I'd be cutting right back...

In 2011, I stopped smoking and got back to healthy weight, and now I am to deprive myself of alcohol??

The specialist didn't bat an eyelid on Friday when I mentioned drinking moderately?

She made me feel so bad, like I am not feeling crap enough as it is?

I have loads of OPK's so I think I'll chart for a month like you suggest. I'll do it every evening when I get home from work..

What is it with rude Dr's? So sorry she was like that with you.

Can I ask did you see you ovaries? What did they look like?

I put on my registration forms that we both had the occasional drink and no-one batted an eyelid. I wouldnt worry about it hun, its not as if your taking meds that cant be taken if you have alcohol. A couple of drinks every now and again isnt going to hurt and like you said you dont drink in the tww.

As for ov, even though ov sticks arent showing ov I'd go by what the DR said. Sperm can last up to 5 days so get to it woman  there will be plenty swimming around to catch that egg, if you start now ;)
It could have been that she could see the egg getting ready, as with a 29/30 day cycle I would have thought you'd ov around the same time as the luteal phase stays the same.

Hi Charlie,

She did indeed show me my ovaries.

Right one is due to release my egg shortly so had a real dark shadow around it and looked huge. Left one was teeny in comparison. Dr didn't point out what led her to believe I could have polycystic ovaries though?

We did get down to BD'ing last night, as I though the same thing. I'd trust the scan more than the cheapie OPK's :)

I have calmed down a bit about it now but at the time the Dr made me feel like rubbish

I managed to take a pic of my ovary can pic's interesting to see. You can see chain like dark patches (like the chain of pearls they speak of) but Dr said they didn't look polycistic as there was also potential eggs else where in the ovary.
Though my AMH was very high too so going to push for more testing.

Glad your feeling a bit better. Hopefully you'll get some decent answers soon (from someone who is kinder and non judgemental) x

Are they going to do bloods to check for PCOS? As you can conceive i doubt thats the problem, for you it seems to be about keeping the pregnancy going. Did she talk about anything on the scan that could be causing your actual problem rather than changing the focus to a problem you don't have? My transvaginal scans showed both enlarged ovaries with loads of cysts but i clearly ovulate.

It sounds like it might be worth taking her advice over the ov kits and just start to did earlier than you would plan based on ov kits alone. start on day 10 and keep going depending on the ov kits. without a comprehensive regular set of scans i guess its hard to tell exactly when we do ovulate, esp as lots of people seem to variously get -ive OPKs or have varied cycles and still get pg.

I assume that PCOS will be tested for? I gave so much blood that I assume I am being tested for everything going LOL!

She said there were no fibroids - I did have a small fibroid show up in a prior scan but she couldn't see it yesterday?

They really did have a good rummage around so I think they got a good idea but the whole issue was that the Dr was scanning me at the 'wrong time' so cannot be sure if my ovaries are polycystic? I have done some reading and can see that having polycystic ovaries does not always mean you have PCOS.

I have none of the common symptons of PCOS but my bloods should show for sure?
