just wondering what changes your work have made for you and what they have said with regards to risk assessments?

Im a part time support worker and work full time for Nandos doing front of house, tills, cooking, waitressing, training etc etc so im on my feet all day every day and i do long shifts.

I can no longer do heavy lifting, i cant use chemicals anymore and from 6 months onwards i will have more frequent breaks so i can sit down every now and again etc.............. im wondering what everyone elses work have said?

I really dont want to do night shifts anymore because i work until 1am some nights and i get so exhausted but we are short staffed and i dont know if its reasonable for me to ask not to have late shifts? x

If you are getting overly tired and exhausted then go to the doctors and get a note and produce it and they should change your hours along with it x

i have one basicly saying now heavy lifting and no pushing heavy things that about it tbh, but the girls are good at stopingme doing what they think is unsutible, im a care assistant btw x

really? i might ask the doctors for advice then ....

Before i left i wasnt allowed to use heavy machines such as scrubbing machines or wasent allowed to clean the kitchens as there was alot of bending involved xxx

My work have been too overprotective - and banned me from doing anything (i suppose that is only right in my nature of work!).
They more or less leave it up to me, and I work to my own pace, and have also chosen my own shifts - just changed this week to do 4 10hr days, so I get 3 days off. Long days, but ok if you get plenty of rest between/at the end. However, I also have a federation I can ask for advice and what not.
Speak to your doctor, and maybe have a look through your contract/policy - they should be altering the work to suit you, not you worrying about how short staffed you will leave them. They have to cover themselves - just think of the legal action if something happened to your baby when you were at work..
xx

My work place has done a risk assessment on me, i'm also a support worker with people with physical dissabilities and involves hoisting ect.. I don't have to do any of that now thankfully but am still on my feet all day!
They are working me just as hard, my team leader is 20 weeks pregnant and told me there is a policy stating of you are over 20 weeks pregnant, you do not have to work after 5pm! I shall be digging that out... as I work 3-10pm some nights and start again at 7.30 the next morning! I'm not sure if this applies to everywhere but might be worth doing a bit of digging ;-)

thanks everyone.

The people i work with are lovely and they all help me and even tell me off if they see me lifting anything lol - its just the hours im struggling with as i can work til 1am some nights and then im back in at 10 and its so tiring.

We are hiring a few new people so maybe when they start i can change my hours as i will be doing more training - presentations etc x

If you are struggling with shifts they should accomodate you and if you speak to them and tell them you are struggling with a shift they may change it. 1 week out of 3 i work mon-fri 1-9 and i now ask for at least 2 of these shifts to be earlier so ill only work half of my late shifts. I work in a call centre so they have provided m with a foot rest, back support and a fan. My manager alsotold me if i need an extra break im to ask for one instead of sitting slouched over the table because of being over tired. My work are good in some ways but in other areas they are quite unhelpful x

talk to your employer if hey r reasonable babes, i'm a support worker & am due my risk assessment 2moro! had quick chat with my boss tho & she will be changing some of my shifts & i won't b able 2 support certain ppl due to challenging behaviour & high personal care needs etc.. will let you know how it goes x
