Reusable nappy advice please

Hi we have been using prefolds for over a year and they are starting to feel a bit hard. . We usually wash them in an eco friendly non bio and air dry them usually outside, weather permitting. To try and solve the problem I have washed them on a hot wash, in a biological wash and with extra rinces so I am satisfied they are completely clean, but are still a bit hard.

Is there a way to soften them up? I had heard that tumble drying might. We don't have a tumble dryer but I could take them to the lauderette? Not keen to though unless it will work. Do you dry them completely in the TD or just give them a blast?

Put them in a hot wash with no powder to strip them then add a capful of white vinegar to the softner cycle, will help soften them up again
