Reusable Nappies info

My wee notions order arrived today - not bad considering they had to make all my nappies because they werent in stock and only posted it on monday!

They are soooooooooooo cute - i will definitely be ordering from them again!

What do you all use as a nappy soak??
I've tried white vinegar with a couple of drops of lavender oil, which was okay,at the minute I am trying boots own brand nappy soak, but I think it is pretty crap. After two days the bucket stinks rotten - it smells exactly like the pus that I have to get out of my bunny's eye socket :puke: (poor Cecil,he had to have his eye removed because of an abcess-10 years old 'un all)
I like to leave them and do a full load, but can't at the minute.
Any more suggestions on a damn good soak?!?

Hi everyone

I think the time has come for me to change over to cloth nappies. I'm fed up of different bran re-usables breaking on Olivia and leaving those horrible wee bits of gel on her. I also hate it when I change her nappy and find the velcro bits all in a hard fold from where she's been sitting up a lot. I want something softer for her.

So far I have two nappies (don't laugh!) 1 fleece liner (I said don't laugh!) and that's it! Am I right in thinking I'll need to get some waterproof wraps to go over the nappies?
Regarding the liners - do the liners generally catch and absorb everything so you just put a new liner in when you change their bum or is it more likely I'll need to put a new nappy on and new liner?

Where's the best (cheapest) place to buy the nappies, bin and nappy bin insert from?

Sorry, I have tried to read back through the many pages of this thread but I'm severely sleep deprived at the moment and finding it all a mind boggle!

Now, to finish off please tell me that Olivia will sleep through the night (or wake less than her 5 times at the moment) if I put her in cloth!! :rotfl:

Thanks

Lucy x

Hiya ,i am not the best person to reply to this as i have only been using cloth this week my self, but i can answer a few questions

You will need wraps unless you get all in ones which are dearer
You will need to change the nappy each time as they still get wet, the liner just protects baby from wetness

Boosters are better for a night nappy, i have a mixture of nappies as you will see in a post a little further up this page

these links may help and also look on ebay as you can get some bargains

hey hun,

I don't soak my nappies, just dry pail them. I will rinse them and then put them in the bucket with a cuple of drops of lavener oil and it smells ok. Tea tree oil is fab too.

I don't soak my nappies either, just put them in a swing bin that I got from Tescos. At the moment I am washing them every 1-2 days because they get a bit pongy though!

I tumbled mine for the first time a couple of days ago and am amazed at how much softer they are!

How are you getting on with the nappies Lucy?

I saw another reusables user in Mothercare's changing room yesterday :cheer: She asked me if Ella was wearing a wee notions wrap and we were talking about the excitement of getting new nappies through and how sad we are  She said she was a smug mummy and loved looking at all her nappies hanging on the line, bless! It was great to talk to a fellow clothie :D

My Little lambs arrived last week. I have the new pack!

Can't wait to use them now. Hope I get on with them and find them easy!
:D

HI TINA, I USE LITTLE LAMBS THEY ARE FAB AND EASY TO USE AND WELL WORTH THE MONEY, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU GOT THEM.
THE ONLY PROBLEM I FIND IS THAT WITH NOT HAVING A TUMBLE DRYER I'M HAVING TO WASH EVERYDAY, AND THEY ARE PERHAPS NOT AS FLUFFY AS IF THEY'D BEEN IN A DRYER.
YOU'LL LOVE EM X

Thanks Helen

I don't have a tumble dryer either. Have you tried using white vinegar in your wash?

:D

WHERE DO I PUT THE VINAGER IN SOAK OR IN WASH?
HOPE IT WORKS.

OH AND HOW MUCH DO YOU USE???
SO MANY QUESTIONS , HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP XX

HIya Helen, i don't use vinagaer but i'm new to all this :D

I think Kina wrote something about vinagar a few pages back on here

hope that helps

I know that vinegar (not the chippy kind) is supposed to help soften nappies :)

Am really confuddled about what newborn nappies to go for (got a while I know!). And how many!

I would say 15-20 nappies and 4 wraps. Tots bots are fab (baby fluffles are soo cute) and I think they would be good newborn nappies (little lamb too). In fact anyhting shaped will be great for a newborn as they are so easy. Perhaps some pockets for night time when they start to sleep for longer??

Ella used to get through about 10 nappies in 24 hours when she was teeny. She was constantly pooing! So that's why I didn't know if 20 would be enough. I think fluffles dry fast though don't they?

they do. I was cjhanging Seren about 8 - 10 times a day so I found it was enough though I was washing some very day for the first couple of weeks.

Well it's easy enough to bung on a wash, I thought I'd probably be doing one daily with 2 nippers in them!

Hi

I've now got 3 nappies, 1 wrap and a roll of liners. I've used the 3 nappies but they're waiting to be washed.... I haven't got a nappy bin yet so they are a bit stinky but perhaps that's cos I sort of semi hand washed them as I knew I wasn't going to wash them straight away.

I'm not sure if I'll buy any more cloth nappies, well I just found them all quite bulky and maybe it's just me but I used the 3 nappies in 1 morning! I think I'm going to be washing them every day if I just buy 10 or so?

I love the idea of cloth but I can't hack any more washing, although perhaps I'm just going through a bad phase at the moment - what with Olivia needing 3 changes of clothes a day from her starting solids and me needing 3 changes a day cos we get food everywhere I just can't bear the idea of another wash!
