Hi Ladies

I have recently been diagnosed in the last 3 weeks as having PCOS, as you can imagine I'm currently going through the roller coaster of emotions topped off with medical appointments.

I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some idea of what to expect over the next few weeks/mths. I have already had a HyCoSy and they are not sure if the right tube is blocked, it also has an additional cyst attached to it; so they have booked me in for a laparoscopy where they will use the dye again, remove the extra cyst and do ovarian drilling.
I'm not complaining but everything is happening quickly and was curious why they haven't tried me on any medication yet, and if anyone has experience of the laparoscopy and ovarian drilling what to expect post op. It should happen within 6-8 weeks but still waiting a date.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I have also been recently diagnosed with pcos although my cyst was only 3cm and there has been no increase or decrease in size in over 6 months so they decided to start me on metformin and clomid anyway.

They probably don't want to start you on medication until they are sure the tube is open and the cyst has gone as fertility meds can make it worse and there is no point putting you through the meds until they are sure they will work.

Once you have had the op they will go from there so it's a waiting game but at least it's finally getting sorted x

I don't think they will start medication until they are sure your tubes are ok and that your ovaries are ok. Chin up! It will all happen quickly but you need to remember that it's happening for a good reason and the sooner it's all sorted the sooner you will be on the path to your little bean!

Thanks ladies that's really helpful still trying to get my head around it all really.
Have either of you had a laparoscopy or the ovarian drilling, what's the recovery time like I cant seem to find a definitive answer?

I haven't had either of that but I have had the dye in there. I think what u will have will be keyhole? I wouldn't worry. The surgeons etc do this every day and know what they are doing and what they are looking for x

I was put on medication first and haven't had a lap & dye or ovarian drilling. I have an appointment in a few weeks which will be 9 months since I last saw the consultant! I'm hoping that I will be referred for the procedure and will ask if I can be as I feel uncomfortable in my abdominal area and I'm sure there's a big cycst.

Good luck with your appointment - from what I've read on here it's more the gas they use that makes you uncomfortable after the procedure than the actual procedure x

Thanks Belfa, that's a long time between appointments is that usual? I hope you get referred then and you don't have to wait to long. I don't really get pain in my abdomen its more in my hips and sometimes down my right leg (the right side is worse that the left according to the scan). xx

I have it ive had three laperoscopys betweem my ovaries and endeometrosis. My cysts have been removed three times amd ive had endeo tissue lasered twice. One of my ovaries stoped working couple of years ago completely from a bad infection from a coil that reached my ovary. I was told I wouldnt get preg naturally then after 4 months trying I got preg. My consultant cant figure it at all! What im saying is dont get disheartened!

The laparoscopy itself is fine but the gas dispelling after is sore. Get very bad cramping in your shoulder! Thats worst bit. Good luck :)

Thanks Lyllian
That really helps to know, should be in about 8 weeks can't come quick enough hoping for a happy christmas!!!

Let me know how you get on but keep your chin up. I'm not the only one in my family either, my cousin has poly ov and endeo too and she's got 4. She tried for a while to concieve her first, tried one round of ivf which failed then got preg naturlly couple of months later. The other 3 followed in quick sucession :) Good luck with it all

Hi, I have PCOS and managed to conceive on clomid. I don't ovulate naturally but was lucky that clomid did the trick for me. I remember vividly the rollercoaster of emotions after I got the diagnosis - a bit of relief to know what was going on but I felt very despondent for a long time about it all.

I haven't had a laparoscopy or ovarian drilling so can't advise you there I'm afraid but just wanted to wish you best of luck on your ttc journey xx
