I started drinking this a few days ago (just one cup a day at the moment) but my dad's wife said I should check with my midwife before drinking it, as she was told not to drink it because of health problems.
I have gestational diabetes and an underactive thyroid, but I don't know how this would affect anything? It's only a herbal tea, right? I will ring MW to make sure but i'm wondering if any of you have heard of reasons why you shouldn't drink it.

I am currently taking raspberry leaf tablets, the recommended amount is 3 tablets per day. I also have the herbal tea but haven't actually got round to drinking it yet. I too have an underactive thyroid. I don't actually know of any reasons not to drink it. I think the only warning with raspberry leaf is not to take it until you are at least 34 weeks into your pregnancy.

I would be interested to hear what your midwife tells you about it tomorrow!

From babycentre...
If you have already had a baby and your labour went smoothly first time around, there is no need for you to drink raspberry leaf tea for your next baby. The fact is that raspberry leaf tea is not right for everyone. Don't take it if:
You've already had a baby and your labour was very short, three or fewer hours from start to finish.

You're scheduled to have a planned caesarean for a medical reason.

You've had a caesarean before.

You've had a premature labour before.

You've had vaginal bleeding in the second half of pregnancy.
It would also be wise not to drink raspberry leaf if you:
Have a family or personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, endometriosis or fibroids.

Have any complications or health problems in your pregnancy.

Have high blood pressure.

Are expecting twins.

I have been advised not to take it due to the fact that i have had bleeding this pregnancy and the family history of breast cancer and the fact that i have endometriosis i would love to try it so i know what everyone is talking about but i dont think its worth the risk

songbird I have endo and I have been taking it ? I better look into that .

I too have endo and was about to go and buy some RLT - I'll have a read up first!

x

The question about RLT was raised at the antenatal class i went to and when i asked if it was safe for me she said with my history best not. Just double check with the midwife first i guess

Ive decided against taking it cos my Aunt died of Ovarian Cancer and my mum had Breast Cancer 5 years ago. Better not eh!

sounds like a good plan Tracey

I do feel im missing out on something but never mind lol

I've decided against it. My midwife said I shouldn't be drinking it before 35 weeks anyway but I should also be wary because of the diabetes, it can send my sugars high. She also said that a lot of people disagree about the benefits etc so I've just decided not to bother with it anymore to be on the safe side.
