How would you pronounce Amaya

I would pronounce it as; AH-MY-AH which is the way I want it to sound but when I have shown other people the spelling they say they'd pronounce it like; AH-MAY-AH

They say if I want it pronounced the way that I do I should change the spelling to Amya but I really like the look of Amaya.

I don't know the correct way but I would have read it a-may-ah

Same. Is the pronounciation you want not Amiah?xx

Same as everyone else.

Pronounced how its spelt x

Ah-May-ah for me too!

If you prefer the way you pronounce it why not spell it Amyah (just a thought!)

I'm in the minority as I would have said AH-MY-AH. I quite like Lyllian's suggestion of Amiah, very pretty.

I would pronounce it Ah-my-ah so I guess I'm in the minority! To me the name Maya is pronounced like Mya (had a Belarusian friend called that when I was younger) so it's the same concept. I like the Spelling Amiah too, but at the end of the day, if you like Amaya, go for it, people will just have to learn to pronounce it. People get my name wrong all the time and it has never bothered me!

I'd pronounce it Ah-my-ah too. Just because Maya is pronounced My-ya and not May-ya. If you spell it Amya, that could be pronounced Am-ya. To be honest, I think you should spell it how you want and correct people when they say it incorrectly.

Even names that aren't all that ambiguous get pronounced differently. My daughter's name, Eleanor, gets pronounced Eh-le-na and Eh-le-nor. I personally don't mind either, but we use Eh-le-na.

I'd pronounce it Ah-My-Ah too. Maya in my head sounds like Mya. It's a pretty name, very pretty!

If you changed the spelling I think I'd pronounce it AM-YA. Personally I'd keep the spelling the way it is. No matter what you do people pronounce/spell names incorrectly. The amount of times I've had to spell my name for people or corrected them when they say it incorrectly and I have a pretty basic name that I always thought everyone knew/how to spell!

Although I'd say Amaya as Ah-may-a, I don't think changing to Amiah would help, as I read that one as Ah-me-a. So I'd say stick with the original spelling, it makes sense in the Maya/Mya context for those who already know those names. People will learn quickly enough.

I would pronounce Amaya as "a-may-a" - just like it is spelled. Very sweet name!

I went straight to A-MY-A, but, I know a Maya, so that might be why...

Amaya is pronounced just like it's spelled--Uh-MAI-yuh. I loved the name
