Hi

Has anyone bought one of the pretty pushers Labour gowns? Or have any thoughts on them? I am very nervous about giving birth and the idea of losing all my dignity horrifies me...I do remember that last time I didn't care too much but then again I had a c section. I just want to stay as covered up as possible for as long as possible.

Or does anyone else have any other ideas on what would be good to wear?

Thanks xxx

I have seen them- don't know how much they r? I would say a hospital gown with a second one worn like a dressing gown would give u good coverage? Won't matter if it gets wrecked and won't cost u anything!....... Either that or a cheap nightie from primark or something? Old shirt of Hubby's? Not sure what u would feel comfy in so just some suggestions xx

I have birth in a hospital gown and didn't loose any dignity...some people want to give birth on all fours naked it's all what you are comfortable with.

I noticed that if my bum was showing or something the midwife would cover it with my sheet or pull down my gown. I think they are completely mindful of your dignity.

Is this the gown I saw on OBEM if so I thought it was the most ridiculous thing ever (sorry) I actually lol'd when I saw it.
A nighty or hospital gown will do the job x

It was that one!! I burst out laughing too especially with the white part at the back!! But I did think it was nice she stayed covered up. xx

Honestly go to primark and get a wee strappy nighty, that's what I got but ended up wearing a hospital gown as it was ment to be a c section (birth was too quick)

I wanted something knee length so just look for that.

But when I was in labour they honestly made sure I was covered and also I had warned my OH to keep me covered.

I'm not a prude at all but wanted to maintain a little bit of myself x

If it will make you feel better then by all means treat yourself to one?

I would personally try and find a similar style on the high-street (much cheaper)

I had a nightie on for the duration of my labour. Had it pulled right up and baby was placed on my tummy after he was born. So it was pointless having it on LOL.

Nightie had buttons so I was able to open it up and BF him too.

X

I was very worried about what id wear etc durin labour.. I was planning a water birth and had a very thin baggy top (type ud wear over bikini for hols) as i wasninly in waterbhalf hr an ended up having to get bk on the bed to have baby monitored i ended up being NAKED with just a hand towel over my boobs  ...
If someone told me that was how i was going to give birth id of laughed in their face!

Unfortunately u really do loose all dignity in labour! And its really the last thing you think about or give two hoots about in the end :)

For post birth i bought some cheapy primark nighties and pj bottoms xx

I was worried and bought a nightie to wear especially but when it came to it I had a hosp gown on because I had to be took to theatre n by that point I didn't care what was happening to me! U loose all dignity when having a baby! Xxx

I'm going to buy a shirt nighty that has full front buttons. I can TRY to maintain some dignity at the start! I think I'll get a black long vest top for in the pool then I can have no bra or knickers on but still be covered.
That's the plan anyway!!! X

i hate to admit but i did exactly the same as starlight and laughed out loud at that gown on OBEM :|.

the baby is coming out of your vagina whatever you wear - like the girls have said, you kind of lose all dignity when having a baby - but as someone else mentioned the MW's do try to keep you covered.

if wearing something like this makes you feel better, go for it, it's your labour after all! :) the one tara linked you to is actually relatively nice xxx

I had nice pretty nighty. Was induced and soon as the contractions started I was too hot so it came off. No dignity what so ever but I seriously didn't think about it. Ended up giving birth in a beautiful NHS gown haha. Midwife s are fab at covering u up ect tho so don't worry !!

Most ladies say they end up not caring what they are wearing. I was quite concious of what I was wearing and was glad I had chosen carefully what to wear. If it was a short fast labour it might have been different but I had a long labour with big gaps between contractions. The last part of pushing I was so concentrated I wouldn't really have cared if I was naked but that was only 1/2hr out of a 38 hr labour. I felt like I kept my dignity during labour. Funnily enough after staying covered for a 38hr labour I stripped off in front of the MW to have a shower without caring lol!
