Hey guys :)

Just wondered if any one else has had constipation? And are we allowed some medicine for it? I've never ever in my life really suffered with it and would say I'm pretty hydrated, eat fibre and fruit and stuff. I've never been in so much pain in my life (I'm going to die in labour lol) but don't know what to do about it. Laxative recommendations?

Thanks  x

Fybogel is good, if it doesnt work then the doc's can give you movicol.

Hope your feeling better soon

I got given Lactulose at the hospital, it works, but it's nice and slow-acting... [no surprise OMG I have to go NOW!!]

Also Fybogel is amazing!

Personally, I take Andrew's Salts... 1 tsp for indigestion, 2 tsp for a laxative dose, but you might be more comfortable with the above two products really :) x

i had it bad too and drank prune juice. proper minging but does the trick.

also calfig is good. you can get it from the supermarket

I had it pretty bad so upped the amount of fruit and fruit juice I was drinking also cut down totally on coke and coffee as caffiene doesn't help :)

I find it's my morning cup of caffeinated coffee that makes me 'go'!!

Fybogel or Lactulose are both safe, I have had it bad this time around but have managed to improve things by just altering my diet and upping my water intake and its done the trick. I was given Lactulose in the hospital after I had my c section with my first child as I was struggling to go - not particularly fast acting but it makes things easier once you do go!!

Sympathise Lexi, I get this , fybogel is good, tried it at about 5 weeks preg after someone recomended it on here, and brilliant, slow to take effect but work out how often you need to take it by trial and error, eg every other day, then every few days when better , and it really helps

thanks guys im going to venture to tescos in a bit! x

i use fybogel it works pretty quick, lactulose as some1 said is good but slow so if u havemt been for 2 days start taking it

I have been finding a that a cup of green tea with lemon each morning keeps me regular.

i had problems with this around ur stage too yes drinks loads of water eat bran flakes for cereal they did wonders for me but until then i used lactulose soultion got prescribed for me worked wonders and keep the bottle in cupboard for through your pregnancy also if u having any pains due to wind i reccommend windeeze tablets from pharmacy they work great for the pains and safe in pregnancy good luck i know its awful xxxxx

I have this little theory that the constipation we ladies get is sort of like a practice run for the actual labour and the pushing bit...

anyhoo it is orange juice for me - results in a nice gooey black runny poo.

Oh the joys of pregnancy...

Stunned, I'm so with you on that! I thought I was in bloody labour the other day. Joyous indeed! X

I have the same butI wouldn't use any medicine. The baby gets it too and you never know how much effect this could have one such a tiny creature. (but that is just my opinion). Hope you feel better soon!

I've not had it as bad as it sounds like you do, but I have noticed a big difference. I used to have no problems at all, but now I'm not as frequent it's it's not as easy!

Hey hun....prune juice helps me....and the specialist recommended linseeds with breakfast ....apparantly keeps system flowing...have a go....and plenty of fluids especially fresh fruit juice...hope ur better soon :) xx
