So yesterday I started with painful knuckles. Tonight they are nearly unbearable :( they all hurt but one of them I can't even move. It's got to the point I'm struggling to grip anything.

From what I've read it's looking like carpal tunnel syndrome. Has anyone else had this? Dreading the pain I'm going to wake up in as it seems worse in the morning :( xx

Hi Hun, I had carpol tunnel down my index and thumb. They went bizarrely numb at first and then the joint pain got really painful. It started around mid tri3 and ended as soon as baby was born. I believe it's excess water retention that creates this pain. Lots of pressure. There's nothing I remeber that really helps it but I used to try to use some bio oil to help move and massage the joint and fingers xx

I have been suffering from this, I found that hanging my hand off the bed while sleeping sometimes helps, and you can get braces\supports from most pharmacies that will help too.

Hugs hun, hope it gets better quickly this morning! Xx

Ahh thanks Emma! Do I need a prescription to get the supports? Xx

Also when my pain got quite silly, I got a bowl of ice water and used to dunc them in there as it would reduce the inflammation or what felt like that, alternatively you should use heat. I'm not sure which one is better as I just tried everything. X

I've been getting this in mostly my right hand, it's got lwly worse over the past 3-4 weeks now i'd say. Always worse at night and especially if i'm not careful about how i lay, the morebunched up my hands are the worse it is. It's bad driving and at work too when typing lots and things.

Some nights it's not so painful just annoying pins and needles but other nights i wake up and my hand(s) just feel like useless claws that hurt and ache but at same time feel numb, which makes little sense to me but can't describe it any otherway!!

I mentioned it to midwife and i'm meant to be getting a referal to the physio but had nothing through yet, i think all they will do is give me splints to wear at night to try and keep my hands/wrists straight and they said maybe some exercises to help relieve it. It feels like a stupid problemto have during pregnancy, I' rather this issue then the many other things you hear of, but it does get really awakard and uncomfrotable :(

Could you call the self referral physio number? They should be able to give you help and some supports for your hands? x

I've ended up ringing the hospital because I checked my blood pressure in work and it's up slightly. I've had a terrible headache all day too that won't shift. They have told me to get straight home from work and bed rest. If headache doesn't shift I've got to go in and be monitored :( feeling pretty rubbish! Xx

I have been suffering with carpel tunnel and severe cramps and spasms in my hands since tri 1. It is very debilitating but I have been assured it will disappear once baby is here. But in my fingers that are worst I have started to get pain in my knuckles.

I do use splints at night, but as far as the cramps go there is not alot I can do but wait out the spam and carry on.

It's my first finger next to my thumb and middle finger that are giving me the worst problems! I can't bend one of them more than a tiny bit without pain :( not pleasant!

Poor u having it from so early on :( glad it will go when baby arrives! Another joy of pregnancy haha xx

If it carries on then I would recommend getting a support either online (amazon have them for around £5) or from a pharmacy if you can. Carpel tunnel is meant to be common in pregnancy apparently. My OH was waking up every night with cramps in his hand and was told that was what his were yet with the support on at night has not had a problem since. X

Sorry have t read everyone else's comments but i have this too, the mw confirmed carpal tunnel...said its due to the build up of water in the body putting pressure on the carpal nerve and it will go once baby arrives.

Mine started in my thumbs and now I have it in all my knuckles. I find when the whether is hot and my ha d's swell a big it get worse, so if there is a way of cooling your hands that should help a bit, but unfortunately I think it's one of those things we have to sit out until baby makes an appearance x

I slept with my legs raised last night, as advised by my hospital and my hands are much better. Still slightly achy but not so painful that I can't bend my finger! Relief! Swelling has gone right Down too :) xx

I feel your pain......I had this for a few weeks and it was horrible! Think I was lucky though as mine got much better around 35/36 weeks. Hope yours settles down too xxxx
