Hi ladies
Haven't posted in an age..
Have a gorgeous 31 month old girl
Hubby and I are starting to think about baba 2.
Had to have an emergency c section after being induced with reduced fetal movement with emilie. Also struggled with my blood pressure (high) after birth.
What will my birth options be with baba 2?
Our preference would be repeat section elective..

Hi- I'd also be interested in this too. My boy is 2 and I've just gone through ectopic surgery unfortunately but still hoping to conceive baby 2! My Son was born early via emergency C section and was breech also. I've been wondering the same?

I'm currently 37 weeks with number 2. I had to have a section with no 1. I had an appointment with a vbac nurse at 16 weeks and could have chosen to have a section there and then but I was undecided so went back last week and have decided to try to have a natural birth and have a section at 42 weeks if I haven't gone into labour. I have found everyone to be very helpful and have let me make the choices I want.

That's really reassuring.
May I ask why you had a section with your first? Do you know if that impacts on if you are offered an elective section?

I had an emergency section last time due to failure to dilate fully, I stopped at 9cm even on the drip.

I'm now 38 weeks with number two. At first it was decided I would try for a VBAC, then baby started messing around a couple of weeks ago and was classed as unstable lie, so a section was booked for 39 weeks. I was scanned again last week and baby was head down, so I'm trying for a VBAC again, but I have another scan booked for the day before the section. If baby isn't head down I'll have the section, if it is we will push the section back to when I'm overdue.

I've refused an induction this time. My consultant is happy to let me choose how to deliver while ever it is safe.

Thanks for the info hon- did you have the option of an elective section?

Hi had an EMCS with dd with a failed induction. Induced due to pre eclampsia.

I never even discussed my options. I said I wanted an ELCS with no 2 and I got it. No one tried to talk me out of it, or even said it's a big op blah blah blah. I read up on it before I was even pregnant and knew exactly what I wanted. I have since been told I would never be able to delivery naturally anyway due to an old injury, therefore anymore we have will also be ELCS. I h ad no problems with that! LoL!

Yes, it's totally my choice. I would prefer the VBAC purely for recovery reasons with having a two year old to look after as well as the new baby.

It's going to be tough next week as I can have the booked section regardless of what position baby is in if I want it. I'm fed up now, so it will be hard to say no when I could be having my baby the following day!

I'm the same as Durham.

I stopped dilating, baby started to get tired and started losing a lot of blood. It turned out my son was in the wrong position and also 10lbs. This one isn't measuring as big and in the right position at the moment.

No-one has tried to push me in to making a decision either way. I have said I don't want to be induced so if to baby needs to come quicker than it is I'd rather have another section.

Just reinforcing what the others have said, I was very much allowed to make up my own mind about having an elective section. I had two vbac appointments with the midwife and consultant that were really helpful in deciding what to do. I had an emergency section with my first due to problems with the induction and I decided on an elective section with my second. My second section has been totally different compared to my first and I'm glad I opted to deliver him this way!

In February I attended an appointment at a vbac clinic to discuss options. It was really helpful because they went over my notes and although I had an emergency csection I wasn't aware of some of the complications I was having during the induction with DS.

The discussion of having a further section was fine I think they encourage vbac because of a quicker recovery but if you go over your due date they generally don't like inducing you as it heightens the risk of scar rupture.

Personally I was vbac all the way this time until my last appointment but I'm going to see how things are if I go over due date.

I think it's so important to not stress during pg so if you want an elective you def should x

If you've had an emergency section with your first, you'll always be offered an elective with your second and certainly my experience was there was never any pressure (either way).

I had an emergency with my first - failed induction for pre-eclampsia, followed by section, pre-eclampsia persisted post-section. With my second I was veering towards a VBAC. Then I was diagnosed with GD and polyhydramnios and told that I would either have to be induced or have a section at 37 weeks. Given my previous experience with induction, I went for a planned section. I was so glad I did. It was the complete opposite of my chaotic first birth and actually reasonably relaxing! So great to feel in control of the situation too and be able to hold my baby straight away.

I actually didn't find the recovery too bad second time round. My OH had a couple of weeks off, but then I was fine looking after our baby and our 21 month old. It all depends on how your recovery goes, but for me it all went really smoothly.

Usually they just give you the choice. The risks of a VBAC are still lower than a CS so they are may discus those with you. Actually anyone has the right to an elective CS in the UK even if its your first baby.
