Have to go to the doctors tomorrow (tues) from my Cervical smear test :( . hate it hate it hate it!
Would gladly forget to go but hubby won't let me forget...damn! (good hubby though)

Always gets me when the nurse says " now just relax dear" yeah right like i'm really going to relax with you shining a lamp and sticking a cold metal implement up my bits!!!

The joy of being female!

iv never had one

you dont need to have one if your under 25 yipeeeee

but iv had anough internals to last me a life time i think every tom dick and harry has had i lil poke around down there

They changed that but i have had one when kacy was 8 weeks old i'm 20, my doctors think that you should start having them when you have your first baby if it is before your 25. But my nurse was really nice to me and she it didn't hurt that bad.

I'm 23 and i've had 3!! here they say from 17 if you are sexually active.
and then to make it worse i had to have a re- take as they didn't do the first one properly
:(

i was told after i had dior that i would need one at my 6week check but at my 6week check no one mentioned it and the other day when midwife came she said that i wont need one as im under 25...

im not complaining thou

Smears - I've had about 7!!!

Must be different where I live - you have one every bloody year

You should have a smear test once you've had a baby. I would say GET ONE DONE.... better safe than sorry! :D

Up here everyone gets a letter a 21 saying make an appointment for a smear.

I got a letter saying telling me to go for my second one while i was pregnant. Suppose i should get round to having one. :? :(

My mum also keeps on to me, as she had a dodgy smear test which ended up in a hysterectomy :( So thats why hubby and mum always badger me, i suppose its for my own health as it seems to run in the family, as my mum's mum also had to have a hysterectomy.
Probably why i hate them so much.

iv never actually had one before lol never knew bout them till B was a month old lol and HV sed i needed one wen he was 6 weeks!
wot do they actually do and look for etc

I would demand one.... I do hate it too!!! I don't understand why one area would insist you get one done and another, like in Dionne's case, say it's not neccessary.
If you ask me, the NHS in you area, Dionne, is either skint or ignorant!
I was 24 years old and when I had a smear test, it was borderline... since then, I have one every year!

I might sound wierd here, but they don't bother me one bit  I'm not a naturist who loves getting her bits out or anything it just doesn't bother me, I'd rather know everything was well :) Had to have some swabs the other day as I was contemplating the coil (now changed my mind), Damien was in the room with me and the nurse and he was smiling at her, then she started the swabs and he was giving her evils!! In my area, you have smears from about the age of 19/20 if you have been sexually active for 2+ years, or 21 if you haven't. I had one the month before I found out I was pregnant with Damien and they will recall me for another in 2 years time (every 3 years here).

Well I'm 30 and I had my first at my 8 week checkup. I'm ashamed to say that the NHS had be chasing me to have one done since I was about 20 as I was on the pill etc but I was so embarassed at the thought that I kept forgetting to make an appointment etc. I have to say that despite having some pain inside from where I tore internally during labout my smear test at 8 weeks wasn't that bad. To be honest I'm ashamed that I was so scared of it for so long!

It is worth it and frankly I'm taking my health a lot more seriously now I have Mel as I want to be around for him as long as I can!

Hi

Ive had 4 now one every year since my 15th birthday cuz once they found out i was sexually active and wanted birth control they said you have to have one every year here.
Excluding last year as i was preg.
At my 6 week check they gave me one but never told me before hand so i could mentally be prepared to take off my clothes lol. went there and shes like ok now your pap smear  wasnt happy at all very annoyed.
I guess they arent too bad considering how many times someones seen my area now but still not no fun.
Good luck though hun and its best to do it for your health .

Dionne its the same here. I asked the nurse if i should make an appointment for a smear at the same time as my 8 weeks check and she said you dont have to until your 25!

This is becuase there arent many cases found in under 25's, BUT if it runs in your family then you can ask to have one before you are 25. I think if you wanted to have a smear to be on the safe side then they would do one.

I had a letter a while ago but have been too scared to go  They always hurt before so am worried they'll hurt worse now. I know I'm being stupid, but it makes me feel sick the thought of having that speculum put in there!

been done - not as bad as the last time i went, but i guess things are slightly more loose down there now!

Ewan was sat on my chest watching with interest 'wat you doin to my mum?' even the nurse said he's got a good view there!!
