Has anyone had this?

I've just got my nuchal testing appointment through and it's for when I'm 14+ weeks pregnant.

This is because I'm on holiday from next week for 2 weeks so not able to fit it in. They should have really scheduled it for today.

Now I feel quite strongly about this screening and if I was given a high risk I would have an amino or cvs and find out for sure. I'm conscious I'm much older than I was last time and as my scan is likely to be towards the end of the window Im concerned what size the fold would be for this reason.

I'm considering paying for a scan on Sunday with the NIPT test. It's £399 from ultrasound direct.

Would like to hear thoughts or experiences on it.

Ahh that's annoying... in your position I would pay to have it done privately. Or maybe the harmony test x

Im currently waiting on my results from Harmony test because my nt measurement was 3.5mm and nhs result came back 1in 40 for downs.

To be totally honest with you, if I could go back I wouldnt have had the nt test at all. I have been in turmoil for nearly 2 weeks over it and Im not sure what I will do if baby does have something wrong. This is the most upsetting thing for me personally as I would prefer no choice in the matter. My baby is loved and wanted but when you are given options thst go along with these types of tests it can throw up lots of difficulties.

This is my situation and you need to think about what is best for you. If thete is something wrong what will you do, does it matter?

I wish I had known a bit more about all this before I went down this road, I dos think that its best knowing for me but now i feel ignorance is bliss!

Xxxxx

It does matter to me, I would take action and end the pregnancy in certain circumstances.

I need to know. I've seen a friend have a baby with Edwards syndrome and the trauma that went with it. I couldn't go through with it.

This is the harmony test Wednesday x

Then I would do it, Tor. If it would change things for you, do it x

Yes, do it! If you need to know and know what you would do then do it! The wait is a very long one though. Xxx

Oh and I paid £280 but it was via nhs due to nt measuring high and having already had my scan with consultant. So £399 seems very reasonable. I have seen some for £500. X

Thanks both.

I have everything crossed for good news for you selina. I think the % of false 'positives' on the NT is not insignificant. I've seen a fair few people on here with higher risk figures than yours to have been told subsequently their baby is fine. I hope that is the outcome for you xxxx

Thank you honey, thats what consultant said. They explained that you can get low risk result yet still have a baby that is affected. At least with the Harmony results are much clearer. Xxx

I see this is the Harmony test.

In your position (fact you will be 14+ weeks) and if we could afford it, then I'd have it in a heartbeat. I feel exactly the same as you about screening and I'll have further diagnostic tests if I am high risk this time.

SIL had it with her pregnancy (she was an older first time mum) and they even found out the gender.... a nice 'extra' of the test if you are wanting to find out anyway.

Well my first thought was to arrange a private NT test for Sunday... then I thought it's bound to give me a higher risk than it did last time and I know I would spend a lot of time worrying about it unnecessarily probably. So I thought for the extra piece of mind it would be better to know with a bit more certainty. And if it was bad news I don't want it dragging on. An NT test at close to 14 weeks means if high risk an amino @ 15 weeks and however many weeks after that for that result which is really dragging on at this point.

It's silly really because I can afford it so should just have it done. I don't like to think of myself as a geriatric mother but I'm 34 now and getting on a bit!! Lol...

I'm nearly 38 and had scan at 13 + 6 so right at the end of the testing window. Nuchal measurement was fine (2.1) and bloods also good so I've come back low risk at 1:1700 for downs, although risk factor obv higher than with my first two due to my age. My risk factor for the other two trisomies was 1:50000 or thereabouts for both. If I'd come back high risk I would have asked for the NHS harmony equivalent - apparently you can do this in a lot of areas now. X

Just go for Harmony if you want more certainty. I wish I had it earlier as Im 15 weeks and I still dont know my result. Should be Monday I find out. It drags on and IF there was an issue and you would want choices the sooner the better I say xx

Just to say though, my consultant said if the risk comes back as high risk its quite sure there is a problem then cvs or amnio is advised to be 100% certain so again thats another period of a few days/week to wait. X

I can't remember my risk with the other 2 (2nd was higher than first) but I'm 37 now so am definitely worried.

My hospital give you the screening results at the end of the scan. It's an hour long appointment, blood as soon as you get in, you have a quick chat and you are given a risk based on your info alone (so age, if certain conditions run in the family etc..) then scan and final screening results.

I had the nipt through ultrasound direct. Was well worth the peace of mind. I had it done at almost 11 weeks. Got the results back a week later and found out the sex too which was nice xx

Looks like I might have missed the boat for this tomorrow now. No appointments available.

Hmm.. not sure what to do about it.

Hey ladies, I'm really struggling to decide whether to have further testing. I have two sons, one has cystic fibrosis and the other doesn't! I mentioned this when booking my appointment and the midwife told me I couldn't be tested so early, she is clearly wrong! From what I have researched the testing is quite invasive, I don't think the results would matter, I just want to know so I can prepare myself just incase. My partner is really against the idea because of the risks! I hope when I have my first appointment next week this midwife will be a little more helpful!! Xx
