Hi girls, would have updated sooner but the last few days have passed as a bit of a whirlwind much like my labour!
I gave birth at 36 weeks on 01/10/11 to a beautiful healthy baby boy and we have called him Kynon Edward, his name is a ancient Welsh Celtic name and we'll probably shorten it to Kye some of the time.
I woke up sat morning to a 'pop' and instantly knew my waters had gone as this happened with my daughter too, I hoped I'd just wet myself as I really wasn't ready for him to arrive yet as I planned a home birth, had not packed a bag, brought all his stuff and we're in the middle of doing a loft conversion so the house is a building site just now! Never the less my waters were like a leaking tap so I called triage (after a lot of hunting for the number) and they said not to rush in as I had no pain and didn't have a bag packed etc.
So I shoved a few bits into a bag, was annoyed cos none of baby's stuff was washed yet so shoved it in anyway then went for a shower. While I was in the shower I had what felt like 2 Braxton hics but no worse so wasn't worried. When I got dressed I realized I seemed to be getting these 'Braxton hics' a bit regular and so decide I'd time them, they were every 4 mins for 40 secs so we decided it might be best to get a shift on to hospital as I was worried about baby coming pre-term etc.
Had a few more what I now guess were contractions in the car, still nothing bad just uncomfortable, Ive been following the natal hypnotherapy so focused on the breathing from that. We parked up in the regular hospital car park and I walked fine all the way to to triage although I was quite embarrassed as I looked liked I'd wet myself by now from my leaking waters!
The next bit is really strange cos as we waited to be buzzed in I felt like the baby was going to arrive, or I needed a poo but I was still totally calm and said to my hubby 'this baby won't wait'. I was put onto the nearest bed and very quickly examined to find I was 9cm! Then the pain kicked in! Suddenly I got panicky and said I was going to push but midwife said not here we got to get you to delivery so somehow I calmed again (def hypnotherapy working) and they wheeled me down. They got me into a room and suddenly I wanted to push but was told to swap onto the other bed, how I did that I haven't a clue! I panicked a bit again and demanded gas and air then threw it back at them saying I don't want bloody gas and air! I was on all fours on the bed and finally they allowed me to start pushing, this is where the hypnotherapy really worked again as I felt so in control and focused and pushed him out with one long push and a few little ones!
That's it, my husband told me we had a boy (I was team yellow) and he cut the cord after saying all along he wouldn't! My baby boy was weighed, I expected him to be around 5 or 6 pound so early but he was 7lb 8oz! Don't know where he was hiding as my bump has always been small!
So from waters popping until baby in my arms was one and half hours! Our carpark ticket was paid 20 mins before he arrived! It's taken me a while to get over the shock of being early and laboring so quick, only really sinking in now! I had to stay in until sunday night as even though he was a good weight he needed to have his blood sugar levels monitored, they went up and down a lot but eventually settled.
So not quite the birthing pool, chilled out, home birth I was planning but the main thing is he arrived safely, healthily and without intervention and is doing great, I'm totally in love and smitten with him! I'll post so pics later as they aren't on my the iPad.
