here it is at last, the final lap on the course to getting my beautiful boy!
Went in for induction on 27 th, at 37+1 - arrived around 9am and was shown to a room (what a result) on the antenatal ward. At 11am a propess 24 hour pessary was inserted and we were told to wait..... i started getting lower back ache and slight period pains that evening - which I hoped were a good sign of things progressing. I took a couple of paracetamol and went to bed hoping that i would be awoken by labor later that night.
Nope! slept till morning, pains vanished! Examination showed I was barely 1cm dilated. so a second 6 hour pessary was popped in at 5pm on 28th March... we waited.... nothing, not a sausage!!
Finally on the morning of the 29th I was reexamined and found that i had not dilated any more - so the decision was made to move to labor ward and break my waters followed by the hormone drip to fully induce labor... again we waited, this time for a bed.
Just before 4pm we were shown to the room where our son would emerge! nerve racking and quite surreal, we looked like we were going to a festival with the amount of luggage we had! The woman in next doors room was was screaming... not a good start!
4.25 my waters were broken and i was surprised how warm they were!
I was placed on a monitor for around an hour to ensure that baby was ok, then told to walk!!!
Pains started pretty much straight away - mild at first and period like. Off we went for a walk around the hospital, not very far along the corridor i had a sudden and urgent urge to poo, im not talking about a pressure /birthing scenario - just a blatant and desperate need to off load the contents of my bowel is a fluid and firey manner
the ladies toilet was out of order so i had no option but to enter the male one!!!! there i am on the toilet bowl with several knocks on the door and what i imagine to be a queue forming!!!Once i had finished Danny kindly informed me he had an 'emotional bowel' and needed to also go.. hahaha so there i am leaning on the wall, breathing through pains, in a stinking cubicle telling him to push hahaha!
Made our way back to the labor ward, sat on my birthing ball! I was contracting 3 times in every ten minutes at this stage (only about hour and half after my waters had been broken) but apparently this was not enough and they wanted me to contract 4 times in ever ten minutes!!! so the drip was placed in my arm With ever contraction fluid was gushing out all over the floor, ball and me... i remember complaining that "I stink of amniotic fluid"!!!!. Initially the pain was not too bad, it brought on more regular and stronger pains so i took a couple of paracetamol. We played a game of travel guess who which I was winning ! The drip was increased every 30 minutes, i attached my tens machine which saw me through another hour or so, the pains were coming thick and fast without much break between them, i started to use the gas and air.... wow thats stuff is great!!!! i was practically dribbling!!
At around 9.30 i demanded an epidural, i couldnt take the pain anymore! i was examined and was only 3 cm!!! so in no uncertain terms and prob with a few more F words that really needed i made sure they contacted the anesthetist - the midwife told me she was in theatre, she then left the room for a couple of minutes - when she re-entered i said "Is she here" (the anesthetist ) to which the midwife replied again that she is in theatre... I turmed to Danny and scowled " SHE IS A LIAR" and then promptly turned to her and said "YOUR A LIAR"
the wonderful god like figure of the anesthetist entered and i told her she was an angel , she attempted to warn me of the side effects but i was like "yeah yeah yeah just stick me with that needle would ya!"
The epidural went in and it was painless compared to the sheer hell on earth of the contractions!
I was mortified it was not immediate so continued sucking on the gas and air like my life depended on it, i was so out of it that it felt too heavy and i made Danny hold it for me whilst i just rested my dribbling, slurring mouth over it!
once the epidural kicked in it was wonderful- i could move my legs and feel them which surprised me but the pain had gone completely!!! AMAZING!! in fact i highly recommend it!!!
So we settled down, watched step brothers on DVD, took a half hour nap and was examined to be told i was fully dilated
called my mum who expected me to be screaming, she rushed to the hospital and into the room expecting some sort of carnage scene straight from an abattoir! she was in such a state that she went to put her handbag on the floor and headbutted a stainless steel table haha!
So the pushing stage started... it was difficult to know how to do it!! the midwife helped me out by placing her fingers inside and telling me to push them away, i pushed for 50minutes without much happening and the midwife went to inform the doctors they needed to assist delivery, i didnt make a sound the whole time - it was so surreal! I dont know whether it was the epidural wearing off more or the thought of forceps but all of a sudden i managed to get his head to crowning point, the epidural helped me here as i was able to really control and gave short small pushes to ease him out without an tears ! the head crowned and contractions stopped for around a minute - the midwife rubbed my stomach to bring one on and another relatively small push and out popped my little man... a cone head!
He didnt cry- he murmured and moaned a little bit, was placed direct onto my stomach and we delayed chord clamping till it stopped pulsing - what a moment, finally after 12 long painful years i was a grateful overwhelmed loved up mummy!!!!
i hugged him for a while and then he had his first feed before daddy got him dressed - my mum filmed the birth for me to watch back and it makes me beam!!!
my son was born at 4.41am 30.3.12 and weighed in at 7lb 7 and 21 inches long.... we named him flynn albert francis bond and he is my whole entire world xxxxx
