Hi there I am early days of being preg but when i think of the tough time i had having my son i immediately think of pain relief. I dont see much being said about mobile epidurals as it sounds like a really good idea to me, to be able to move around basically pain-free.

Have any of you had one or planning one? any advice you have would be wonderful! xxxx

Afaik not many places do mobile ones. Hence then not really often talked about.

I know my hospital didn't do mobile ones. If you had one it was lying down on the bed and that was it.

You need to find out from your local maternity unit nearer the time what thier pain relief options are. They will be able to tell you if they offer mobile ones or not.

Ok thanks, im seeing the MW this week so i will ask

Hiya, I had a mobile epi and found that it was a good option. I had it at 4 cms and unfortunately for me I was one of those few that had an epi that didn't work  so had another epi done at 8cms, once it kicked in it was fantastic. I could totally move my body and continue to be mobile but just with no pain. I did end up having to have a spinal block at the end as Layla went into distress and I was prepped for surgery. However I did finally get her out with the help of a ventouse  I really didn't like the feel of the non-mobile epi/spinal block as I could not feel my lower body at all and had to wait a while for it to wear off. It is of course personal preference but I have to say I found the contractions at 8cms quite unbearable (after 24hrs of labour  !) and really found the mobile epi fantastic.

In my notes it says I had a mobile epi but I was still not allowed to move about, I had to have a mw atke me to the loo a few hours after the birth  I really didint like it anyway and next time I will try not to have a back to back baby (Im just gonna stay on all fours for the whole 9 months  ) and try to cope without an epidural.

I loved my mobile Epidural - perhaps because my labour started on the Tuesday and I had my little girl (who is now 2) on the Friday morning!!!! I had the Epidural on the Thursday night and it was heavenly relief!!!!

The only down side is that I could not walk to the loo and had to go in a tray that the nurse gave me BUT DID I CARE??? NO!!! I was pain-free thoughout!! I also went to the loo (no 2) when I was pushing her out cos I could not feel anything (TMI)......BUT I WAS PAIN FREE!!!!

Want another epidural again with this delivery, which is coming very soon!!

I had a mobile with Scarlett and it was fantastic! I could walk to the loo, walk about the room. They let it wear off when it came to pushing, so I could feel what was happening. But I managed to have an hour or two kip while in labour :cheer: it was great. So thankfully I have absoluletly no fear of labour this time round :rotfl:

I had a mobile epi too and it was FANTASTIC!! It was difficult to get off of the bed because of the wires/drip, so I had to pee etc in pan - but I could feel my legs and change positions. I did most of my pushing on all fours.
I had no pain for the entire time it was in and the MW had to tell me when I was contracting. I remember getting some sleep and chatting and laughing with my hubby whilst in very established labour.
I was out of bed and sitting in a chair within an hour of giving birth.
