James turns one on the 15th feb and his MMR will be due. I do want to get him done but as bubs will be here 2 weeks later do you think Im best waiting til LO is a bit older? the reason I ask is that I have heard that MMR can knock babies for 6 and I don' t really want to be in a situation where I have a new born baby and a sick 1 year old to look after.

I would personally just get it done jen. To my surprise Imogen was absolutely fine with the MMR as was my lad as well. May as well get it done - wil build his immune system up hun - will your mum be about in case he gets poorly to help you out?

Usually the vaccine shouldn't make him contagious, but I'd talk to the GP just to put my mind at rest

That happened with me when Nathan was born Aimee was 13 months and I decided to put it off and didn't end up taking her till she was almost 2. I was so scared she was going to get measles the whole time though. Don't know whats best but could you not ask for the MMR to be done a couple of weeks earlier if thats possible?

i was told that as long as they have the booster before they were 3 then that was fine. Hannah was 2 1/2 when she had it and noone said anything

According to my book, MMR is at 13 months so you would probably have a couple of weeks after baby arrives before he needs it. My friend's mum is a HV and she told me that they are advising waiting until 15 months in her area anyway (can't remember why though!).

I'm in exactly the same situation and have been thinking about this too.

Hopefully they wont be too affected by the MMR and if they are it'll just be like a cold bug. We cant control when they pick up colds and things so if you put it off it'll be sods law that he'll end up with a cold anyway and need mummy just as much (i'm not making sense but its clear in my head!)

I'd personally rather not put it off cus cases of measles are on the way up cus of all the media attention a few years ago and i'm just gonna get it over and done with.

ted had his yesterday.. hes absolutly fine his leg is a little bit sore.. but no temp or anything..he isnt 13 months till the 31st so technically he has had it earlier..i would ask the hv if he can have it done a week earlier 3 weeks will give plenty of time for recovery if he does have a temp etc. ollie will become more protected to imagine james got one of the illensses.. he could easily pass it on to ollie then.. i would go for it jen presonally.. but ask for it a week or 2 early? omg.. ur having a baby in a few weeks

Isaac has his MMR last wednesday and he is showing no signs of fever (touch wood).

Not sure that helps any but just to let you know that not all kids get ill after, but obviously with a newborn you have other factors to think about too, like James catching measles in the meantime and giving it to baby. Maybe you should get it done when it is due and make sure you have plenty of calpol in the cupboard!

Tricky one that Jen

i personally would just go for it hun, i was a lil edgy about my LO having hers but my hv stopped me in the street when my LO was almost 1 saying that there was a measles outbreak and kind of put me on the spot to make an appoinment, which i did. She was completely fine with the injection didnt affect her at all............. BUT.. 4 months later she got really really ill so i too her to the docs and he said that she had contacted a mild dose of the measles  nothing to do with the mmr jab either.. if i hadnt of let her have it when i did she would of had full blown measles. she was terribly ill as it was i dont think id have been able to forgive myself if she caught full measles because i didnt take her for her injections :( so im quite thankful to my hv (for once) :rotfl: xxxxx
