May 2017 Mummies *NEW*

You guys have cute bumps already!

Another dumb question, what is a muslin, what is is used for and how many would you need?! Do I need bibs and stuff or is that only if they are dribblers? I remember my sister using bibs as she slobbered everywhere haha. What cot bedding do you need? Presumably a sheet over the mattress. I keep hearing about grow bags? Is that instead of a blanket? I'm sure I saw somewhere they have to be a certain size first though, so what sort of blanket?

We aren't doing a FB announcement. We still haven't told anyone and are still debating what to do about my parents. I suppose that they should know first and then I'll have to think about who to tell.

I'm also debating what I'm going to wear for the next few months. My jeans are ok in the mornings but get uncomfortable later on. I can't do leggings I don't have the figure for it at all, got massive sports woman thighs then tiny little ankles that make me look like I'm in one of those fun house mirrors!

What're everyone's views on moses baskets vs cribs? I've been looking on Mothercare at them and I'm thinking a gliding crib might be a better buy than a moses basket, seeing as the baby should be able to use a crib until 6 months. Plus I like the fact that that they have the gliding motion which may soothe baby to sleep. Everyone seems to go on about moses baskets though, so I'm unsure.

I love cribs but want to be able to carry downstairs for night feeds so will probably go for moses basket. I prefer the pod ones though.
Muslins are handy for putting over shoulder etc incase baby is sick. Bibs still needed too xx

Muslin squares are what you pop on your shoulder to burp baby to prevent sock going over you and you can use them for modesty if breast feeding. They are also great for moping up dribbles and puke.

I had a moses basket with my son but I want a rocking one this time I think I may get one for upstairs one for down as it was a pain moving it with my son. We plan for baby to sleep where our laundry baskets are now so we need to train ourselves not to basketball our clothes onto the baby when the time comes lol.

piglet you must have the same due date as me now I got put back 2 days.

I really like the billie faires pushchair she designed but in the grey stars I love stars lol its about 270 pound but you get the stroller, carry cot and car seat with it for that price

15th May, Nikki :) Although I've no idea how on earth they've calculated it x

You will def need muslins - they will be an absolute necessity for me again.

I co-slept with both of mine. B started the night in her cot but ended up in with us every night and with J, because I was breastfeeding, he co-slept with me every night for 18 months until he moved into bunk beds with B. He didn't spend one night in a basket or cot. Didn't plan it that way at all, just sort of happened and I loved it. I still got in with him in the middle of the night to feed until he was 30 months! So I imagine we'll co-sleep again, I don't think we'll even bother putting the cot up this time. I have a Moses Basket but I don't trust it on the flimsy stands with the kids leaning in or if the cat jumps up, so I may get a small crib just so I've got somewhere to put baby down in the day xx

I'm getting one of the cribs that you can put the side down so baby can sort of Co sleep but have its own bed etc and the crib bit comes off so I can carry it into another room etc

Muslins are a life saver I used to use them for everything lol some children use them as comforters when they get older

Hi everyone,
I'm brand spanking new here. I'm currently pregnant with my second and due May 30th 2017. I got my :bfp: at around 4 weeks so about 5 weeks ago, after 6 months of ttc. Congratulations everyone! I hope to speak to everyone properly soon :)

I was going to get one of those too but was wondering how easy it is to detach from bed and add side again to move downstairs etc? Have you used one before? If so, is it easy? Xx

As I'm on baby number 5. I've learnt along the way. I buy a Moses basket for downstairs and have a crib in my bedroom. My back is the first thing to go in pregnancy and after pregnancy. So I can't carry a baby in a Moses basket. I am tempted to get one next to the bed like Nikki. I always put the baby in bed upstairs before I go and have a video monitor. Muslins are a god send to me. I even use them to cover up for breastfeeding to.

I realise all the Johnsons stuff you shouldn't buy, also not taking cotton wool to hospital to clean your baby's bum is frowned upon. Midwives give you the daggers. Xx

Hi and welcome to MummyChar :)

I've seen those next to you cots, I quite liked the idea but I'm not sure I would be able to get in or out of bed with it on, I'll have to do some measuring. I'm wondering if I can fit something at the bottom of the bed, otherwise it will be laundry basket area for us too (and it has taken me years to train my oh to use it!). What do you do with babies during the day? Is that why you mention being able to take a basket downstairs? I hadn't even thought about a moses basket but maybe that would be useful downstairs...

Hi and congratulations xx

My cousin said this. They are against wipes. I was thinking of getting the water wipes. The midwives do get on my nerves a bit when they get pushy with their advice. When I had my son they plonked him on my boobs, didn't even ask if I was breastfeeding. This was during home visit. I will tape them up this time so that they can't do it lol xx

Hmmm, I think we'll will go with a crib upstairs and borrow my bro and sis in law's moses basket for downstairs, which we'll just need to buy a new mattress for.

Congratulations x x x and yea cotton wool for on the hospital it's easier than wipes at first too I think. X x I'm feeling so gawddaymn I'll today

they are easy to put back on doesn't take long at all and baby is nice and close while you are in bed :) oh already has a moses basket so may use that downstairs anyway. they can be quite pricey but are as big as a crib so hopefully will last baby a little while before going in a cot

I have yet another stupid question. A lot of newborn clothing is very pale, is there any reason for this? Will I burn out my babies retinas if I have bright clothing from the start?!

haha I've noticed that as well snowbee I'd love some bright coloured sleepsuits lol
