****** May 2015 Mummies to be *******

I am just thinking of what I need for my hospital bag, those of you on second or more pregnancies have you got any recommendations on what brands of maternity pads / breast pads are best? Or are they all pretty similar?

This is my first pregnancy but I've had several reccomedations about Tescos own maternity pads. £1 for 10.

I've just got back from Aldi, got some bargains and Blake got a new sippy bottle.

I used Asda and Tesco branded maternity pads last time, both were fine and fit for purpose!

I used tesco last time orion. They were brill. I akso used the mothercare ones and I don't think they were bad. But remember going to back tesco to pick up more as they were better value I think. Breast pads I personally preferred the lasinoh ones they weren't too bulky as I found some would become uncomfortable if was moving around and I think these were the best ones I had xxx

How many maternity pads do we need to buy? I have no idea!

Tesco here for the pads too, take ALOT you do bleed very heavily, i was shocked at how much actually was coming out of me!! Sorry! I had to wear 2 at the same time the first day after birth!!

Don't use normal pads they arent as breathable and can cause you to have infections etc Can use them later on as you bleed for up to 6 weeks after.

Went to Aldi too and got some lovely pieces too!! :)

Be firm re visitors is all i will say, having special family time is just precious and the best the first few days.

This might be an odd question, but does the bleeding hurt? I know there's aches and pains as the uterus contracts back, but what's it like immediately after birth? I always suffer with the most horrendous period pains, I've enjoyed the break from them!

Just feels like a period really, the uterus contracting back took me about a week to shrink back for me and that was sore at times tbh like contractions! But then after(I bled for the 6 weeks, unlucky huh!!) it was just annoying bleeding with mild period cramps.

Yeah I wouldn't say the bleeding hurts after birth once your uterus has shrunk back down to size. Like bitton bear said that feels like mild contractions when that happens. I didn't have many cramps with the bleeding and I had a infection but compared to what you've been through you don't mind it too much if I remember rightly. I would definitely buy a few packs of pads to stock up as it's best to be on the safe side. The bleeding immediately afterbirth was quite a lot but will reduced slightly over the first week until it becomes like a normal period, a bit tmi also but also if you haven't already get a some hemmoroid cream for after birth just incase and a rubber ring as it's a little tender to sit for a couple of days.
I've seen my midwife today aftera half hour wait (my oh was fuming as he has work at 2) I got to hear their heartbeats! They are actually sitting on top of one another on the one side of my tummy which i didn't think was possible. My sonographer said the left twin always stays on the left side and the right on the right hand side but both of them are on the right hand side, I knew something had changed last night. I was so uncomfortable and lopsided I thought it was just how I was laying. My right hip hurts all the way up to my kidney. But I do have protein and a trace of blood in my wee so the kidney pain could be linked to that. I've got to ring the gp tomorrow to see if they want to see me or they have prescribed me anything. Also got my matb1 form. Anyone have any idea what I do with it now, I wasn't working last time so have no idea what happens next lol xxx

thanks everyone, i just don't know how my parents would take it being asked to wait - also it's their daughter that's likely just had major surgery so i think they'd be feeling as anxious to see me and make sure i was ok as much as they wanted to see baby.

I soooo want to go to aldi and I can't :( Jealous!

everyone asking about bleeding, a little tip as well. for a few months after birth carry emergency pads in your bag. I thought i'd stopped bleeding at about 3 weeks so stopped wearing/carrying anything then a couple of days later walking round tesco i started gushing (sorry!) any gentle excersize can shift things can get them moving again so be prepared. I never had any pain or discomfort with the actual bleeding.

Jessiecat - I'm sure if you explained it to your parents they'd be fine. You're only asking them to wait a couple of extra hours and you can call them to let them know you're ok.

Jessiecat, I don't have to worry about this as my other halfs parents and family are in Poland, so wont see them until baby is a few months old. My mum will be with me/us for the birth, then i imagine my sisters the second i say they can come in. I will probably see my dad once out of hospital - he hates hospitals and I don't think my mum will manage to get him in there! I guess if the situation was different I would still want my mum and dad first, but luckily I don't have to decide.

Orion I am going to nip to aldi after work, hoping they aill still have some good items left

Ahh Caseysmummy I have a picture in my head of your little twins snuggles up close together and thats why they are on the same side :-)

Tomorrow off work.......yipee!!! so looking forward to it, with how work has been lately. Going to chill out, go to the gym, swim and umm maybe just read a bit :-) and not do a lot else :-) xx

Visitors it will be my in laws first, my parents are about 8 hours away but even if they were the same distance I wouldn't mind who was first, I'm very close with my in laws, my MIL is my second mum for sure :) I see her everyday!

Fair enough. You all make good points, i suppose on the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter who's first in. If anything like last time il probably be too high to notice anyway lol.

I have made a life changing decision today.
Soo, i can't do anything as im sure you all know, i've moaned about it enough. So my poor OH gets home from work then starts tidying, seeing to my 6 year old and looking after me before he can settle. We're really struggling to keep on top and bless him i think he tries not to show that he gets a little overwhelmed by the amount there is to do and im litterally in too much pain to stand long enough to do anything (though i did sort out odd socks on the bed yesterday so we all had socks to wear again haha!) sooo anyway im going to pay someone to do all the ironing whilst im pregnant. I've always been very self reliant so it feels like a big deal but we have so much ironing to do its ridiculous and we're all quickly running out of things to wear my poor hubby can't keep on top of everything that needs doing in this house.
So my achievement today - making a decision haha.

Jessie, such a shame you feel so rubbish. But do you know what? Take advantage of it!! Chill as much as you can.

Good idea on getting some help. We have a cleaner :) best decision ever!!! Nice to come home to a clean house! (She doesn't do the ironing, as I iron as I go) worth the money.

thanks bigbee - oooh im interested now. I've considered a cleaner but my OH put me off saying that his friend had one but his house was always a mess as they dust and wipe but don't actually tidy? As awful as it sounds i don't care if the sides are a little dusty but I want the house to at least look presentable enough that if someone turned up I wouldn't die of shame. It's more a tidyer i want than a cleaner lol.

So what does your cleaner actually do?

A friend had her first baby last May and got a cleaner as was just her a lot as husband worked away. She was chuffed and really pleased she went for it :)

Separate note- decorator has done first coat of paint and I'm loving it!!!! Dusted fondant and one wall mulberry burst so it's a bit girly but not too overtly girly. I kind of want our room done the same haha :)

Oooh Elliot that sounds very luxury! Make sure you post pics when it's done :) I've told the hubby he's got to paint tomorrow - poor thing doesn't get a break lol

I've been umming and ahhing about a cleaner, but I keep feeling that i am being a bit self indulgent and I shouldn't be so lazy!? My mum and dad got a cleaner when I was in my late teens, but they were both working full time and had three teenagers and a dog to keep on top of?!

I don't iron anything at home apart from shirts and going out clothes that really need it. My OH is an engineer so wears utility trousers and a polo shirt, and I wear what I like. I try and get everything out of the washing machine as soon as it's finished, and hang it up as straight as possible to dry!

Elliott that room sounds lovely, can't wait to see the pictures! My OH is painting our nursery this weekend, I've chosen Iced Lime to go with our Olive and Henri accessories. My mum bought the curtains for the kids rooms and I collected them today, lovely BLACKOUT ones lol!

I couldn't justify a cleaner with only working part time. I'm very lucky that OH does his share too, bless him! Great decision though Jessie, I'd be pulling my hair out if I couldn't clean up x
