I am a long, long way away from worrying about labour / waters breaking but we do have a brand new and quite expensive mattress!

How much are protectors these days?

Sainsbury's have one on offer for £14 - is that reasonable?

To be honest I brought one from the Range and found it so uncomfortable! In the end I've brought some of the small seat pads from mothercare for £5 and have one underneath me at night and don't even notice its there!

I personally think £14 is expensive if you end up throwing it away after a week like me! X

I'd say so. I'm going to put a bin bag and some of those kiddie training pads under my bottom sheet lol x

I think £14 is alright, my mum got me one. It's rubbery tho... As I always use a mattress protector... But £14 is cheaper than a new mattress xxx

This hadn't even occurred to me but luckily I have a single that I could put on my side of the bed! We have a new mates so I will be putting one on as the dd looms nearer, failing that I have tarpauling! ;) xx

I have a mattress protector from primark and it was about £5 and I don't know its there. But hubby is asking me to put a bin liner underneath me as well in case my waters break in bed. Like I'm not having trouble getting comfy as it is! X

I am thinking that the protector will be useful after having baby as well (I have heavy periods pre pregnancy so God knows what I'll be like after?)

This is a proper protector, not a plastic thing?

So I assume it can be washed and reused?

I didn't bother with it in the end - we already have a memory foam topped mattress and the mattress protector will mean we don't benefit from that LOL!

I did get two new duvet sets for £30 - half price sale on at Sainsbury's!

I am planing to use the cot mattress protector for that purpose. Thankfully it's flat and no fitted so I will Just put that in the bottom half of the bed with some absorb toddler potty training pads and let's hope for the best lol...

I'm getting one, got a memory foam matress and don't want it ruining!! x

See mine's only memory foam top so I am worried by putting a protector on it will mean I don't feel the benefit of the memory foam.

It does say one of the functions of the protector is to "enhance comfort"

Hmm, don't know.. Could be just as comfy? x

I didn't bother in the end!

If we need one I'll shop about nearer the time!

I bought stuff we didn't need instead

I have a mattress protector and it is like a sheet that just goes over the top of the actual mattress. My MIL told me to buy a shower curtain to put under my sheet as it will cover a large area and not necessary uncomfortable either :) x

It'll need to be waterproof whatever you go for, a slightly padded foam/material protector will do nothing to protect a mattress from your waters. I bought large square maternity mats, the size of a muslin from Boots to go under my usual mattress protector.

I figure at £5 for 5 this would be far far cheaper than a new mattress.

My SIL had to replace their mattress after her waters went one night cost them a couple of hundred quid!

Mattress protectors do spoil the comfort of memory foam. I have bought a pack of maternity mats. Am just going to start using them in bed at about 39 weeks. Got mine from Boots

We bought some incontinence mats from boots just in case. Our matters is fairly expensive and I don't want to have to replace it x
