Safety Mattress...?

Hey guys, I'm a tad confused to say the least on this score! Please help?!!!

My Dad was going on about the fact that I need to get a special "safety mattress" for my cotbed... but what exactly is this?

At the time, he was explaining that they had special "pores" in them so that if baby was sick, then it would "run down" or "away" from the baby to stop them from choking on their own vomit?

Does this come as standard these days? Apparently I had one of these special mattresses but that was 28 years ago!

Any help and links would be great as there are so many mattresses out there with such a vast amount of price differences too! I'm also considering ordering off kiddicare.com if I do get one as they appear to have some great offers on there but time is quickly running out.... xxx

I'm getting a PurFlo mattress - haven't ordered yet as I'm moving in 4 week so will get it in November. Won't be using it initially as I have a moses basket anyway.

OK, I don't know anything about the previously mentioned mattresses, but I DO know about mattress wrapping. There was a huge study done in New Zealand (I will go after this and find some links) - it was in regard to SIDS though. Very compelling evidence, IMO. I bought the mattress wrap ($35) before my daughter was born, I slept much better! I'll go find links, definitely worth reading!!

This one describes it quite well, but there are many, MANY other links on this out there if you look. I cannot find my favorite link where I first learned about this, but this one's pretty good.
