Just wondering if anyone who has received any of these, how long it took until you received money after sending in application.

Maternity Allowance. I sent the forms in 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing. Been ringing but never get an answer. How long has it taken from sending it in to being sorted.

Sure Start. Only just returned forms today but was wondering how long it takes to receive money as I want to get a few things with it for baby?

Hope you dont mind me asking but the Jobcentre are useless at answering questions.

i sent off for the sure start maternity grant after 29 weeks like they tell you and i recieved my money within about 2 weeks.

with u sending it off so early they may not have begun to process it til you reached 29 weeks. could take another few weeks :?

eta: oops sorry i diddnt read that properly...

if all goes well u should recieve maternity grant within 2 weeks or so, not sure about maternity allowance.

I sent off for my Maternity Allowance on the 3rd September and got a reply around the 5th October saying how much i will be recieving, i sent that back the same day and received a letter on Thursday to let me know that its going to take 5-6 days for money to go into my bank, so overall its taken a good 5-6 weeks :wall:

Not sure on the grant as i can get that till babies here

i hope you don't mind me asking but what are all these grants and how do you become entitled? I am hopefully starting my new job in a couple of weeks but because I won't have been there long i don't think i will get anything, any one have any ideas what i am entitled to? Also if the job finishes before i give birth - it could be temporary and I have no job, what do I get then?

It is such a minefield!!!

I hope you don't mind me asking!

im sending mine off on wednesday... (sure start)

i hope i get it within 2 weeks

The Maternity Allowance is for people you have worked, moved jobs, self employed in pregnancy and cannot get SMP. I will write what is in the book.

You May be able to get Maternity Allowance if

You are not entilted to Statutory Maternity Pay from your employer.

You have been employed or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before the week you are expected to have your baby.

Your average weekly earning are at least £30 a week. - To work out the average you can use any earnings from any 13 weeks in the 66 weeks before the baby is expected to be born.

You will not be working during the time you get Maternity Allowance.

You can get an application form from the jobcentre if you think you are entilted. You can also get an application for Sure Start Maternity Grant. This is more complicated and it is explained in the booklet. Hope that helps. Need anymore help. Ask.

i was also wondering how i get to know about it oes anyone send you info or do you have to ask someone yourself sorry if this is an obvious question you all seem to be sorting things out around about this time so maybe i shoul get my arse in gear :)

thanks for that, i am a bit of a case as I have been supply teaching which is effectively employment i guess! is it worth having? does the amount differ for different people?

Its worth applying. You get £108.75 per week for 26 weeks or 90% of your average weekly earnings if it is less than 108.75.

Whoar i dunno how they worked out mine then as my wages are all over the place (Work in Argos Part-time) some weeks id only get £15 and others i would get £50 odd (They cut all the Part-timers hours and as it was when i was pregnant i couldnt really get another job :wall: ) and they are paying me £74.25 a week & thats more than i used to get a week when i was working

I had to send in 13 payslips so didnt need to write how much i was earning...hmm i dunno  not that i'm complaining anyways hehe

When i got mine for Aimee the money was in my bank 5 days after i sent the letter off. I expected it to take weeks! I had the money even before the letter to tell me how much i was getting. Hope its as quick this time.

If thats for the Maternity Allowance then i doubt it this time as when i rang up they said that due to alot of the job centres closing down and others taking over different things (I.e i got told by my Job centre to send my application to one job centre and then found out that they dont deal with Maternity there anymore :wall: ) they are having a very big backlog  But then again it could be different

Finally got through to someone who told me my claim is being dealt with and they had to contact my old employer to check dispite me sending in payslips and bank statement. It will be completed this week and I will get a letter next week. Payment should be week after. Fingers crossed.

Hi Hannah,

I sent my claim off for my MA 3 weeks ago and they wrote to me a week later saying that my claim had been accepted and what id be entitled to a week.

I just have to send my form off as soon as my maternity leave officially starts and they will start paying the money from the Sunday my leave starts (they will back pay it if needs be.)

Didnt seem to be a delay for me...perhaps im just lucky :rotfl:

They say for Maternity Allowance, allow 6 weeks for the backlog as there are offices losing.

The sure start grant should be with you in a week normally , Milton Keynes are pretty efficient :D
