Jade goody only has months left :(

My heart goes out to jade and her boys. I dont blame her for making as much money as possible - shes being unselfish and she is making sure her lads have a future and I respect that.

Its not fair though, poor girls only 27

I met Jade a few years ago at a book signing and she was a lovely kind open person. I was devestated to hear this news this morning and if I was in the same postion I would sell my body to science or the highest bidder to ensure my little boy was secure for the rest of his life. Shes the same age as me. The govenment need to change the ages women have their first smear NOW

To be fair, doing routine smears too early also would have disadvantages, as outlined here

Cervical cancer is rare in women under 20. Teenagers' bodies, particularly the cervix, are still developing, which means young women may get an abnormal result when there is nothing wrong. This could lead to unnecessary treatment so screening young women might do more harm than good.

Under the age of 25 years, invasive cancer is extremely rare, but changes in the cervix are common. Although lesions treated in very young women may prevent cancers from developing many years later, the evidence1 suggests that screening could start at age 25. Lesions that are destined to progress will still be screen-detectable and those that would regress will no longer be a source of anxiety. Younger women will not have to undergo unnecessary investigations and treatments.

Any woman under 25 who is concerned about her risk of developing cervical cancer or her sexual health generally, should contact her GP or Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) clinic.

Women aged 65 and over who have had three consecutive negative results are taken out of the call recall system. The natural history and progression of cervical cancer means it is highly unlikely that such women will go on to develop the disease. Women aged 65 and over who have never had a test are entitled to one.

I'm glad that Jade's devastating diagnosis raises awareness, however it's sad that it triggers such a panic, and thereby demands which are not reasonable or even counterproductive when looking at the statistics. The anecdotes mentioned in this thread are terrible for the individual, but I believe that the NHS policy regarding age, when looking at the total population are correct.

Also, the NHS has only limited funds, which, if the automated screening age was lowered by say 5 years, would mean that a huge cost would be incurred for relatively little benefit, and I'd rather see that money invested in programs which benefit a larger number of people. Of course, if someone is concerned, they still should be seen, and have diagnostic tests as required, but I don't think that a lowering of the general screening age would change much for the better.

I've read that she plans to get married in the next few weeks.

Absolutely heartbreaking news.........makes me feel sick in my stomach..............I know that we'll all die at some point, but to know that you only have a matter of months left..............so sad so sad.........

My thoughts are with her and her family

God bless her

Im so sad about this :( I cant believe it....i thought she'd get better. It must be so awful going through this, and the thought of leaving your children....just heartbreaking :(

Sad news. I'm not a fan of hers but, no matter what you think of her, she is someone's mummy. x

So sad  i actually bought the big brother vid she was in last year on ebay
because she was so funny it, Its devasting news :( Jack has proposed to her on valentines eve
so she plans to sell it to tv to get money for her sons :(

This is terrible. I do hope she's spending all the time she possibly can with her boys though as having money is great, but it's never going to bring back their Mum :(

I never realised the smear test age had been raised, I had my first smear at 20.
Its only been changed in England though and ladies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are still screened at 20.

I really agree with this. I might get shot down for saying this but the thought of her dying in front of the cameras (I don't mean her actual death) is making me feel really really uncomfortable. I don't want to see it, perhaps thats me being selfish but I have already seen too many people die from this disease and don't wish to see another person go through it (it will be very hard to avoid unless I seal myself into a bubble). I just think she should just take herself out of the limelight and spoend as much time with her biys as she can, they will be financially ok but she only has a mimited time.

I have read the bit about the reasons for changing the age to 25 but I still don't agree. This poor woman went to the hospital 3 years ago when she was 24 complaining of pain but nothing was done.

I did hear on the news today that awareness of cervical cancer has increased since this has happened so even if she saves one life by showing her heartbreaking story on telly it will all be worth it.

She's a brave woman and my heart goes out to her. :(
