Jade Goody

I also hope this opens ladies eyes to the importance of going for smear tests.

I feel for her, makes you think doesn't it.

It's made me book my smear test whcih i have been putting off for ages.

 for poor jade and her family and anyone else suffering from this terrifying illness

Absolutely awful news! Can't imagine what shes going through.

I never realised it was 25 for smears, where I live it was after 1st baby was born which in my case was 20. Is that a new thing?

It used to be that you were first invited in England at age 20 then every 3 years after. In 2004 they raised the first invitation age to 25 due to it being statistically less likely of getting abnormal results (aka saving money!!). Scotland and Wales still invite from age 20!

So if you were 20 before 2004 then you should have been invited for your first test and if 20 after 2004 then you won't get invited until you are 25. This is in England on NHS. You can always pay private if you really want to get tested before 25.

I had my first smear at 17 after I had my first baby too! Its stupid to make women wait until they are 25 especially with the age of actively sexual people getting lower! (i.e 13 year olds) That means that some women could have been sexually active for 12 years before a smear test!? Thats ridiculous!
I try and make the doc give me one each year! Even though me and Joe have been together 10 years! Still always a chance they have missed something on the times before!

I thought she has been misdiagnosed and when they found the cancer it was too late

I can't believe she is going to die :( Its so unfair.

I feel so sorry for her and her boys. It must be terrifying knowing your going to die so young and leave your little children behind. I could cry for her.

If i read right it could have been detected 4yrs ago but wasn't. As it was it had developed into stage 3 cervical cancer with a 40 percent survival rate. And now to hear its spread even further and there' no chance of survival is awful i cant even begin to imgaine what it must be like for her. :(

I had CIN3 cancerous cells, thank god I had my smear tests.

Poor Jade :(

this is awful I feel so sorry and sad for her, it must be the worst feeling in the world knowing u are going to die and leave ur 2 young kids

it really awful

Poor Jade I really feel for her and her family.

I was having some symptoms and had a smear which came back normal, but I still had the symptoms so I insisted on a recheck which came back abnormal and turned out to be CIN3 and I had a loop excision. So it is essential to have regular smears - I have friends in their 30's who have never had one - If one good thing comes of this is that it will raise awareness and I think she is being brave talking about it to the media.

Oh no :( how awful. How long has she got?

I would go for a smear tomorrow, not embarressed one bit- but they won't do it.

Had my smear 'invitaion' yesterday. Made the appointment straight away. Scary isn't it :(

People are so quick to knock her though its awful. She's saying she is doing the Living show for the money for her children and to be honest I believe her, she's a great Mum and I would do the same if I was in her position. Even if it meant selling my soul to the devil himself to ensure my children got the best life I could possibly give them I would.

She's also highlighting the importance of smears which can only be a good thing. Like a massive percentage of this population I have had abnormal smear results, I also know someone who has been devestated by cervical cancel but has lived to tell the tale although sadly she is no longer able to have children. :(

Jade, although has driven me crazy over the years is a brave and wonderful Mum - my heart goes out to her.

Zebrastripes - DEMAND a smear don't take no for an answer it's every womans basic right and if they still refuse take it further - your health is far more important than their budget contraints! I believe family planning clinics used to do them - not sure if they still do but its worth looking into.
